When I saw the final scene of Daredevil: Born Again, it got me excited beyond belief. Not only is Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) preparing to once again do battle with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), but Season 2 is also looking to adopt the fan-favorite Devil’s Reign storyline by bringing in other vigilantes for Daredevil’s “army”. That promise is slowly starting to be fulfilled: Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) will be making a comeback, hinting at the potential reunion of the Defenders. However, a new batch of set photos has revealed that another hero is going to join Daredevil’s cause, and it’s someone we’ve seen before.
A fan posted a set photo of Camilla Rodriguez, who plays Angela del Toro, on Twitter; she’s shown sporting a striped black and white mask and a white hoodie. This all but confirms that Angela is going to follow in the footsteps of her uncle, Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes), and take up the mantle of the White Tiger. Not only will this build on events from Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, but it’ll also continue to explore a unique dynamic within the series — and reveal an entirely new side of Matt Murdock in the process.
Angela del Toro’s Transformation Into White Tiger Was Teased in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 1
Angela del Toro made her first appearance during the Daredevil: Born Again episode “Sic Semper Systema,” where she confronts Matt after Hector is brutally executed by a police officer wearing the Punisher’s symbol. From the jump, Angela reveals herself to be fiercely dedicated to getting justice, no matter what. Despite Matt’s insistence that the judicial system will deal with Hector’s killers, Angela correctly clocks that the police are the ones who murdered him.
Later, in the episode “Excessive Force”, she takes it upon herself to continue her uncle’s investigation into the people whom Muse is abducting…but soon finds herself captured by the murderous artist, leading Daredevil to save her life. That’s a big deal because up to that point, Matt had hung up his horns after the death of Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson). In a way, Angela is responsible for bringing back Daredevil, and her desire to see justice done meant that she was going to be the White Tiger no matter what.
I’m Glad We’ll Get To See More of Matt and Angela’s Dynamic in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for how Daredevil: Born Again will continue to potentially explore the bond between Matt and Angela, especially if she becomes White Tiger. There’s plenty of potential in exploring a mentor-mentee dynamic between the two, especially since Angela is the reason Matt suited back up as Daredevil. How does he train a new vigilante? Will he take a similar approach to his old mentor, Stick (Scott Glenn), or be more human in his approach?
Daredevilhas taken on partners before in the comics, and he canonically trained Angela to be a vigilante in Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev‘s Daredevil run. There’s also the matter of Angela inheriting Hector’s White Tiger amulet. The amulet grants mystical strength and speed to its user via the Tiger God, but in the comics, it nearly drove Angela insane. Could the amulet’s presence lead to Daredevil finding a new enemy instead of a protege?

With Matt Officially Back in His Suit, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Needs To Introduce His Comic Book Sidekick in Season 2
Yes, Daredevil has a sidekick — and he’s pretty cool.
Another Marvel TV show previewed what Daredevil mentoring a younger hero would be like. In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the Man without Fear is revealed to be mentoring Finesse and trying to uncover Norman Osborn’s (Colman Domingo) shady motivations. This brings him into conflict with Spider-Man (Hudson Thames), while also hinting at a return for Season 2. However, it suggests that Daredevil could work effectively with a younger protégé. Daredevil: Born Again should definitely lean into that, as Matt teaching Angela the finer points of vigilantism could provide a breather from the grimmer aspects of the show.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Will Continue To Flesh Out the Street-Level MCU
The fact that Angela del Toro is working toward becoming the new White Tiger reminded me of another quote that Marvel Television, Animation, and Streaming head Brad Winderbaum said about Wilson Fisk. Around the time Echo was slated to premiere, Winderbaum was asked in an interview if Wilson Fisk was the Thanos of the street-level Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying: “Oh, man, you kind of hit the nail on the head. I can’t say too much. Only that as a chapter in Wilson Fisk’s life, this is a crucial one and sets the stage in some remarkable ways for what’s coming next.” Based on Winderbaum’s comments and the fact that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is looking to adapt Devil’s Reign, I feel like the street-level MCU is treating this storyline as a lower level version of Avengers: Infinity War. Bringing back the Defenders leans into that theory, but Matt and Angela’s dynamic could mirror the one in Infinity War between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) — though hopefully with a less tragic outcome.
Deepening the street-level corner of the MCU also goes back to what made it such a great franchise: filtering different genres through a superheroic lens. Captain America: The First Avenger was a period piece, Thor and Doctor Strange leaned into fantasy, and Guardians of the Galaxy was a space rock opera. Applying the same approach to television will make Marvel’s TV shows stand out and remind fans why they love the MCU. I never thought that Angela del Toro would be the character to get me tuning into future episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, but her becoming the White Tiger is filled with so much promise.
