An Oscars 2026 Tie? Breaking Down the Rare Win in the Best Live Action Short Film Category

For The Singers, filmmakers Jack Piatt and Sam A. Davis went onstage first to grab their trophy and shortly thereafter, Two People Exchanging Saliva‘s Alexandre Singh and Natalie Musteata followed behind and accepted their award.

“We believe art can change people’s souls,” Alexandre said. “Maybe it takes 10 years time, but we can change society through art, through creativity,” he added, referencing Timothée Chalamet‘s recent comments, “through theater and ballet—and cinema.”

And as for Natalie, she added, “Thank you to the Academy for supporting a film that is weird and queer and made by a majority of women.”

After announcing the winners, Kumail quipped of the record-breaking moment, “Ironic that the short film Oscar is going to take twice as long.”
