DC’s official Batman relaunch has finally arrived, and early preview pages give fans their first in-story glimpse of the Dark Knight’s striking new costume. The redesign also comes with an epic reveal: an ingenious feature that lets Bruce tap into one of the most iconic superpowers of all time, adding a badass twist to the Caped Crusader’s arsenal.
The relaunch of Batman, spearheaded by Matt Fraction, Jorge Jiménez, and Tomeu Morey, is officially here as DC Comics shares a seven-page preview ahead of the September 3, 2025, release date, which fans can find below.
While the publisher has already released first looks at the Dark Knight’s costume, this marks fans’ first in-narrative glimpse. And it’s an entirely different experience, introducing a new Batsuit feature called the Bat-Wing, which essentially unlocks the classic superhero power of flight thanks to advanced aerodynamic technology in his iconic cape, letting him glide across the Gotham skyline.
Batman #1 Preview Reveals Jorge Jiménez’s Modernized Suit and Innovative Gliding Cape
Main Cover by Jorge Jiménez for Batman #1 (2025)
Batman #1 sees Bruce once again donning his classic blue and grey color scheme, featuring an epic modernization of the suit by artist Jorge Jiménez. One of the most notable aspects is the new bat logo, which has a sharper, more elongated, and detailed design that has been generally well-received by fans so far.
When Jiménez first released his updated Dark Knight design, fans noticed the cape was also stylistically different. Its tail featured sharper cuts and expanded in a way that more closely resembled a bat’s wingspan. Now, Batman #1 reveals the cape change wasn’t just for visual appeal.
When Batman jumps from one of Arkham Tower’s top floors, fans see that Bruce upgraded the cape functionally. It transforms into a glider, complete with a handlebar for steering and control. Another cool detail is the cowl, which has built-in glider goggles to protect Bruce’s eyes from the strain of high winds.
Batman’s New Bat-Wing: Titanographene Glider Turns Batsuit Into a Short-Range Flight Machine

This Batsuit feature also has an official name, Bat-Wing, not to be confused with Batman’s ally Luke “Batwing” Fox or the occasional colloquial use for Bruce’s flying vehicles, like his jets. The preview also provides interesting in-narrative specs for the Bat-Wing, including its material, functionality, and additional details.
Listed as an aside, fans can see that the Bat-Wing is defined as a “low altitude, low opening flight suit,” made from a titanographene weave and boasting a glide ratio of 5:1. This means that for every one unit of vertical descent, Batman’s glider travels five units horizontally, making it ideal for short glides rather than long-distance flights.
Batman #1 is available September 3, 2025, from DC Comics!
