Beautiful Trailer for Acclaimed ‘Calle Malaga’ – Set in Vibrant Tangier

“If you want me out, you’ll have to throw me out.” Strand Releasing has debuted the official trailer for the beautiful film titled Calle Málaga, the latest vibrant cinematic story from Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani. This first premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival last year and earned a spot on my Best of the Fest list because it’s really something unique and charming. An aging Spanish woman in Tangier resists her daughter’s decision to sell her home on a colorful street where she has lived for decades. Determined to stay, she does everything she can to keep her home and reclaim the belongings of a lifetime. Along the way, she rediscovers love and desire, and reconnects with the neighborhood. Starring magnificent Spanish actress Carmen Maura as Maria, joined by Marta Etura, Ahmed Boulane, María Alfonsa Rosso, & Sanae Regragui. I adore this film, for many reasons, but mostly because Carmen Maura is such a badass in this. Just the best. She handles the whole weight of this story so perfectly. Highly recommend catching this film.

Maria Angeles (starring the wonderful Carmen Maura) is a 79-year-old Spanish woman who lives alone in Tangier, Morocco, and enjoys her daily routine. However, her life is turned upside down when her daughter arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment in which she has always lived. Determined to stay, she does everything she can to get her home and her belongings back and, unexpectedly, rediscovers love and sensuality. Calle Málaga is written and directed by acclaimed Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani, director of the films Adam and The Blue Caftan previously. It’s also co-written by Nabil Ayouch. Produced by Nabil Ayouch, Amine Benjelloun, and Jean-Rémi Ducourtioux. This first premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival last fall.
