“If you’re gonna lose, you lose to the best team! Don’t lose to yourself!” 🏒 Well Go USA has revealed the official US trailer for a film called Youngblood, a hockey movie from Canada starring Ashton James as hockey prodigy Dean Youngblood trying to make a name for himself. This premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival last year as a Centerpiece debut as it’s an important Canadian hockey story. Youngblood leaves Detroit to pursue his professional dreams with the Hamilton Mustangs in Canada. Raised on discipline and toughness by his father, Dean enters the league with undeniable talent — and an arrogance that quickly puts him at odds with teammates and rivals alike. As he confronts toxic behavior both on and off the ice, Dean must decide what kind of man and player he wants to become. The cast includes Ashton James as Dean, Blair Underwood as his father Blane Youngblood, with Shawn Doyle as Coach Chadwick, Alexandra McDonald, Henri Picard, Donald MacLean Jr., Olunike Adeliyi, Emidio Lopes, and Tamara Podemski as Ms. McGill. Opens in theaters down in the US starting this March. This also pairs nicely with the doc about Black hockey players called Black Ice – directed by the same filmmaker who made this. Enjoy.
Here’s the main official trailer (+ poster) for Hubert Davis’s film Youngblood, direct from YouTube:

Raised on grit and hockey by his hardline father (Blair Underwood), Dean Youngblood leaves Detroit to join Canada’s Hamilton Mustangs. His elite skill turns heads, but his arrogance earns enemies and keeps him benched by a resentful coach. After a costly clash with rival goon Carl Racki, Dean finds guidance from team captain Sutton and unexpected love with the coach’s daughter. When Racki brutally injures Sutton, Dean faces a defining playoff showdown—and a choice between rage and maturity. Youngblood is directed by Academy Award & Emmy-nominated Canadian filmmaker Hubert Davis, director of the films Invisible City, Darkness and Hope, Giants of Africa, Black Ice, and The Well previously, plus many other short films. The screenplay is written by Seneca Aaron, Josh Epstein, Charles Officer, Kyle Rideout; from characters created by Peter Markle & John Whitman. It’s produced by Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen. This first premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival last year in their Centerpiece section. Well Go USA debuts Davis’ Youngblood film in select US theaters starting on March 6th, 2026 coming soon.
