David Spade and Theo Von are joining forces for Busboys, a throwback to the raunchy comedies of the early 2000s, and the first trailer has just dropped.
All About Busboys
Busboys follows a pair of idiot friends who believe that becoming waiters will solve all their problems. They aren’t entirely wrong, but they’re definitely not entirely right either. In addition to Spade and Von, who also wrote the script, the film features appearances from Tim Dillon, Bobby Lee, Trevor Wallace, Jay Pharoah, and more. The movie was directed by Jonah Feingold.
The project was first announced two years ago, and Spade and Von have truly put their money where their mouths are. The pair self-produced and self-financed the film, which you’ve got to respect. “We are looking forward to gracing everyone with this comedy that no one asked for,” Spade said in a statement.
While Spade is obviously best known for films like Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and Joe Dirt, as well as TV shows like Just Shoot Me! and Eight Simple Rules, he’s become even more prominent in the podcast world in recent years. He co-hosts the Fly on the Wall and Superfly podcasts with Dana Carvey. And of course, Von hosts This Past Weekend, one of the biggest podcasts out there.
Busboys will open in theaters on April 17.
The Reaction to the Trailer is… Interesting
Based on the trailer, the film is… well, let’s just say it’s not exactly my cup of tea. But that’s just me, and a quick scroll through social media shows a pretty wide range of reactions.
“Screams straight to Crackle,” someone wrote.
“I’m not sure what it means that I had to check if this was a real movie or just some well done AI grift,” wrote another.
Someone else wrote, “This felt like one of the movie trailers that played before Tropic Thunder.”
And finally, “The funniest part of this trailer is how every actor seems like they’re being forced to do this movie by gunpoint.”
That said, there are just as many people who seem absolutely pumped for the film, with many loving the chance to see this type of outrageous comedy in theaters once again.
“This that 2000s hilarious stupid type comedy!!!! I can’t wait!” wrote one fan.
“Can’t wait!! Gonna go see this, even if it isn’t that great. We gotta support people trying to make comedies again. It’s been too long and people are afraid to make them,” wrote another.
And this person might have the right idea: “I will see this in the theater after consuming several medicinal quality gummies.”
Now it’s your turn: What do you think of the Busboys trailer?
