Car Guys, This is the Best $1,000 You Can Spend in Watches

Originally released on a pass-through strap, the Group B received its integrated bracelet back in 2018. Dubbed the Series 2, this watch has come in and out of the Autodromo catalog in various guises and executions, each of which is seemingly more drool-worthy than the last. Absent for some time, it just made an exciting re-entry in the form of the Pegasus Edition, a limited run of 70 pieces that’s sure to sell out faster than it takes to change a tire on your Audi Quattro.

The new watch is a collaboration with Mobil 1—yes, the motor oil company—and features the brand’s signature red Pegasus logo on the dial and a cool black colorway. On another watch without the same automotive influences, this might feel phoned in. But on this black DLC-coated version of the titanium and stainless steel Group B, with its dashboard instrument-inspired black and white dial, it looks incredibly sleek. The watch is finished with subtle red accents throughout the outer chapter ring and on the tip of the seconds hand that tie the look together.

At 39 mm wide and less than 10mm thick, the Group B is a distinctly versatile piece, and its bracelet is removable and resizable. In low light, the time-only face lights up like a dashboard tachometer in bright blue Super-LumiNova, while the Pegasus logo pops against the black background. The screw-down caseback, meanwhile, is laser-etched with the watch’s individual issue number (out of 70), while 50 meters of water resistance provides some peace of mind in case you happen to drive your Ford RS200 into a pond. (Remember: the GPS doesn’t always know best.)
