“Why do I have to have the last name ‘Storrie’? The whole world is gonna know me as just Connor. Like I’m Madonna or Cher or Paddington,” Connor Storrie said during his Saturday Night Live monologue last night.
The breakout Heated Rivalry star may not be a true one-name celebrity as of yet, but he and his onscreen love interest Hudson Williams have been mega-viral since the show— a cultural phenomenon responsible, Storrie joked, for helping countless straight women realize “that their sexuality is ‘gay guy’”—took off last fall. But as Storrie reminded us on Saturday, despite being everywhere right now, he’s still getting used to this level of fame: “When I got the call that I was gonna be on SNL, I honestly cried,” he admitted.
During the show’s opening monologue, Storrie was joined by Team USA Hockey gold medalists, including Quinn and Jack Hughes, Megan Keller, and Hilary Knight. (While the Hughes brothers—missing some teeth—confessed they hadn’t yet seen Heated Rivalry, the women’s team was sure to let Storrie know that they had).
The Heated-mania/Olympic-fever synergy continued later on in a sketch about a couple (cast members Veronika Slowkowska and Tommy Brennan) having a tense relationship conversation on the side of the 30 Rock ice rink after a rejected marriage proposal, only to be repeatedly interrupted by a group of gleeful adult male skaters, including Storrie, Mikey Day, and—in a surprise cameo—Hudson Williams, who had to wait out nearly thirty seconds of rapturous screaming and applause before delivering his first line.
