‘Death Stranding’ Creator Can’t Wait for the Threequel to Ben Affleck’s Action Thriller With a ‘Daredevil’ Star

Hideo Kojima, a legendary figure in the video game industry who is best known for creating the Metal Gear Solid series, is a noted cinephile and often shares his mini reviews on social media. He’s busy creating a Death Stranding universe, the PlayStation series which currently has a feature film adaptation in the works at A24, and fans can’t wait to see the beloved characters come alive onscreen. Nonetheless, the acclaimed creator recently revealed that he can’t wait to see the third installment of Ben Affleck’s action thriller saga, The Accountant.

The Accountant 2 came out earlier in 2025 after an eight-year-long wait and was a massive hit. The movie that reunites Affleck with Jon Bernthal and Cynthia Addai-Robinson frequently appears onstreaming top 10 charts and seems to be a fan favorite. Kojima recently caught up with the movie and praised it on X, “As a buddy film, it was refreshingly original. Not only the premise, but also the action and attention to detail were great.” He also got to see the original movie afterwards, “It was interesting to see their childhood depicted. The worldbuilding (like Ben Affleck’s character setting) and Anna Kendrick’s comedic tone felt mismatched (perhaps intentionally miscast?), but that actually created contrast and added depth. I think I prefer the first film. I’m looking forward to the next one,” he concluded.

What Do We Know About ‘The Accountant 3’?

Kojima and other Accountant fans are also waiting for The Accountant 3 after the trailblazing success of the second film. A third film in the franchise is a go, director Gavin O’Connor previously told Collider about the 3-film arc he intended right from the start: “There’s always been three. Since post-production, since I started editing the first one.” He further praised screenwriter Bill Dubuque, who is helping him map out the trilogy:

“We started talking about, and I said, ‘We should be doing three of these, so what’s the interstitial movie?’ Which is two, which is now, exactly what we talked about. And we have three.”

The Accountant franchise follows Affleck’s Christian Wolff, an autistic certified public accountant who makes his living sanitizing the fraudulent financial records of criminal and terrorist organizations around the world. The sequel sees him return to investigate the death of a close friend, but he needs help from his younger brother, Braxton (Bernthal), and Treasury agent Marybeth (Addai-Robinson). It’ll be interesting to see where the next adventure takes the three characters. Going by O’Connor’s comments, the third film should conclude their arcs satisfactorily.

The Accountant and its sequel are streaming on Prime Video. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
