Disney+ and Spain’s RTVE have inked a deal for a selection of the public broadcaster’s most successful shows, including “MasterChief,” one of the most iconic and most watched culinary talent shows on Spanish television.
Beginning March 31, the agreement will expand the entertainment offering available to Disney+ customers while providing RTVE with a new distribution window that broadens the reach of its content, connecting with new, younger audiences across Spain.
Among the RTVE titles to be incorporated into the Disney+ catalogue will be “MasterChef,” produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia, part of Banijay Group.
Disney+ will premiere the 13 episodes of the hit show’s Season 14 as well as the 12 episodes of Season 11 of “MasterChef Celebrity,” which will be available on Disney+ after their broadcast on La 1, the flagship channel of RTVE’s public television division TVE.
The agreement marks the first time in Europe that a state broadcaster has agreed to make shows available on Disney+ on the day after linear broadcast.
The collaboration between Disney+ and RTVE also extends to scripted content, with “Rojo Sobre Blanco,” a new series produced by Mediawan subsidiary Good Mood, which will premiere on TVE and then on Disney+. Further titles will be announced at a later date.
RTVE joins the international free-to-air broadcasters Disney+ works closely with across Europe, from Atresmedia in Spain, to ITVX in the U.K., ARD and ZDF in Germany and SIC in Portugal, “underscoring a shared commitment to championing and supporting local storytelling,” Disney+ stated.
Each collaboration is tailored to local needs, helping broadcasters reach younger audiences while providing more local storytelling to complement Disney+’s global catalogue.
“RTVE is loved by viewers in Spain, with a rich heritage of decades of incredible shows,” said Karl Holmes, Disney+’s general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “Through this agreement, we are delighted to bring some of RTVE’s most iconic new shows to Disney+ customers, which are some of the most popular and recognized formats in Spanish television.
“Incorporating these programs into Disney+ strengthens our ambition to enrich the service, while giving greater visibility to the extraordinary creative talent across Spain. This collaboration reflects our commitment to working closely with Europe’s greatest free‑to‑air broadcasters, bringing their high‑quality local storytelling to younger and new audiences. We look forward to beginning this journey with RTVE and are confident it will lead to many more projects together.”
According to Disney+, the agreement also reinforces its commitment to Spanish audiovisual production and talent, enriching its offering with formats that have strong cultural and social impact.
For RTVE, the pact also reflects efforts to maximize the visibility of its content through strategic collaborations with global platforms.
Indeed, both companies aim to continue the exploration of new synergies that contribute to the growth and strengthening of their editorial and audiovisual strategies.
The RTVE deal builds on a growing portfolio of free-to-air collaborations between Disney+ and leading European broadcasters. It also expands Disney+’s footprint in Spain, where the company also has a major large-scale, content-sharing agreement with Atresmedia that provides more than 300 hours of premium Spanish programming.
Disney last year announced a first-of-its-kind content deal in the U.K. with ITVX, bringing curated selections of each platform’s shows to new, complementary audiences and driving incremental discovery.
