Put on your spurs and holster that big iron on your hip, because it’s time to head back to the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout. After debuting the first images from Season 2 on Monday, Prime Video’s record-breaking video game adaptation made an appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live to promote the upcoming December release and share the first teaser. After the finale of Season 1, the Mojave Wasteland awaits Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), as they search for answers about their families and the world they live in. At the center of it all is the city of New Vegas, a location packed with opportunity, danger, and sin built in the ruins of its pre-war counterpart.
When viewers last saw Fallout‘s trio of wasteland dwellers, everyone had gathered for a climactic confrontation at the Griffith Observatory, where Lee Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) had Lucy’s father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), locked up. He was revealed to be a Vault-Tec executive with plenty of blood on his hands after ordering a nuclear strike to destroy the settlement of Shady Sands. Moreover, he has a history with The Ghoul, back when the irradiated man was still known as actor Cooper Howard, and Hank was just “young Henry” trying to get an autograph. The reunion between Lucy, Hank, and The Ghoul ends with Maximus (Aaron Moten) knocked out and Hank fleeing towards New Vegas, with the other two survivors forming a tenuous partnership to find him and get some much-needed answers.
The footage gives a taste of the new dangers that await in New Vegas. As the final moments of Season 1 revealed, there will be more mutated monstrosities awaiting in the harsh environment of the Mojave, including the Fallout franchise’s apex predators, the Deathclaws. More intrigue, however, will lie within the confines of the city itself. Although the show won’t entirely adhere to the events of the fan-favorite Fallout: New Vegas, the game’s story will connect closely to how Season 2 unfolds, and one of its most important characters, the CEO of Rob-Co and the city’s leader, Mr. House, was previously confirmed by showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet to have a part to play in the main trio’s misadventures this time around. In short, the new episodes promise to deepen the characters’ stories in both the present and the past, and strengthen the connection to the canon of the larger Fallout world.
‘Fallout’ Season 2 Reassembles Its Talented Post-Apocalyptic Team
Most of the main players will be back to set the world on fire in Season 2, including the trio of Purnell, Goggins, and Moten. The cast has previously featured the talents of Moisés Arias, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones. Adding to the violent and chaotic wasteland this time around is Macaulay Culkin in what’s been described as a “crazy genius” type role. More new faces can be expected to crop up, though, between Fallout‘s new setting and the new factions that will likely be introduced there. With this team and returning creatives like executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Goggins has assured that the new episodes will “blow [Season 1] out of the water,” despite the premiere’s universal acclaim.
