The fifth and final season of The Boys is done. Series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke has announced that post-production on the final season has been completed, leaving nothing else to do but to… watch it.
The Boys Final Season is Done
“The last color tweaks on the last VFX shots of the last episode of The Boys. Now 100% done,” Kripke said on social media. “It never truly hit me that it’s over, cause there was always something to work on. Until today. This was the best professional experience of my life. I hope you like it.“
Karl Urban Says Final Season is Peak Boys
Karl Urban, who stars as Billie Butcher, told TV Insider that the final season goes back to the roots of what made the show great in the first place. “It really feels like peak Boys this season, having the gang back together in the way that we did in seasons one and two, and every week coming up with a new way to not only take down Homelander, but also taking down other Supes along the way,” Urban said. “To me, that’s The Boys at its best.“
What’s The Final Season About?
The official logline for the final season reads: “In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.” The final season will premiere on Prime Video on April 8.
The Boys Universe Isn’t Over
Although the flagship series is coming to an end, the franchise isn’t over. Production wrapped on Vought Rising last month. The prequel series has been described as a “twisted murder mystery” set in the 1950s, featuring the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. There are already plans for a second season, as well as a third season of Gen V, but Kripke says the audience has to show up.
“We have a plan for Gen V Season 3, and we’re psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch Season 2 to justify Season 3,” he said. “Now’s the time that they’re paying attention to the numbers. So don’t watch even a year from now. Turn on Prime [Video] and watch it now. If enough people watch then we’ll get a Season 3. Same applies to Vought Rising Season 1. We have plans for a Season 2, if we can. They’ve been nothing but supportive, and they’re giving us our opportunities. But it’s a business and we also have to deliver. So hopefully the audience shows up.“
