“You gentlemen looking for adventure?” Paradise City has unveiled their early promo trailer for Wolfram, the latest new film from Australian indie filmmaker Warwick Thornton. This is set in the same “universe” as his previous film Sweet Country, another tale of racism and survival amidst the dusty Australian Outback of years ago. It first premiered at Berlinale 2026 last month and will play at more festivals coming up this year. Set in the 1930s, the film follows 3 children who escape their white masters and journey across central Australia seeking safety. The youngsters set off across the desert “sweet country” of central Australia, in search of safety and a way home. An outback Western but also a historical drama about survival, reckoning, resilience and love. Starring Deborah Mailman, Erroll Shand, Joe Bird, Thomas M Wright, and Ferdinand Hoang. The film picked up mostly positive reviews playing at Berlinale, saying that it “builds a strong emotional investment with its protagonists.” Still no release date set yet – have to wait a while for it.
Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Warwick Thornton’s film Wolfram, direct from YouTube:

From Berlinale: “On the colonial frontier of 1930s Australia, two swaggering outlaws roll into a mining town and unleash a wave of cruelty, leading two siblings to break free from their white masters who have forced them to work as child labourers in the mines. The children escape & set off across the desert ‘sweet country’ of central Australia, in search of safety and a way home. Set in the same universe as Thornton’s award-winning film Sweet Country from 2017, Wolfram features standout performances from Deborah Mailman and its young actors, playing siblings who must rely on each other as they search for the truth about themselves and their family, escape a nightmare and make unexpected connections on their way to freedom. An outback Western but also a historical drama about survival, reckoning, resilience and love.“
Wolfram is directed by acclaimed Aboriginal Australian filmmaker Warwick Thornton, director of the films Samson & Delilah, The Darkside, We Don’t Need a Map, Sweet Country, and The New Boy previously, plus “The Beach” series. The screenplay is written by Steven McGregor & David Tranter. Produced by Greer Simpkin, David Jowsey. This initially premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and will play at more festivals soon. No final release dates are set yet – stay tuned for updates. Is anyone interested?
