“Take me to the party!” “How do you know about the party?” Inaugural Entertainment has debuted the very first official trailer for an intriguing NYC mystery thriller film titled The Dutchman, which might be better described as a psychological thriller than anything. From director Andre Grains, The Dutchman premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year and it’s getting a limited release starting in January early next year. A successful Black businessman, haunted by his crumbling marriage and identity crisis, is drawn into a sexualized game of cat and mouse with a mysterious white woman he randomly meets on a subway that leads to a violent conclusion. Set in New York City, following a man who gets tangled up with a woman named Lula in this strange cinematic nightmare journey. It’s a modern adaptation of the 1964 Obie Award winning play, offering a “contemporary edge to the original, exploring themes of race & identity in America.” The film stars Kate Mara and André Holland, with Zazie Beetz, Aldis Hodge, Stephen McKinley Henderson. This actually looks pretty damn good + reviews were solid at SXSW. Check it out.

Via SXSW: Clay (starring André Holland), a successful but troubled Black businessman, attends therapy sessions with his wife, Kaya, in an attempt to salvage their marriage. But their mysterious therapist is not all that he seems, and unexpectedly appears to Clay outside their sessions. On a New York subway, Clay encounters Lula, a seductive but sinister white stranger who slowly begins to unravel his life. Clay must discover the truth behind this encounter to get back to his wife, heal his fractured soul, and survive the night. In this modern adaptation of the 1964 play, The Dutchman brings a contemporary edge to the original, exploring themes of race and identity in America. The Dutchman is a film directed by American producer / filmmaker Andre Gaines, director of the films The One and Only Dick Gregory, After Jackie, and the doc Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics previously. The screenplay is written by Qasim Basir and Andre Gaines; based on the play by Amiri Baraka. It’s produced by Jonathan T. Baker and Andre Gaines. This originally premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. Inaugural Ent. releases Gaines The Dutchman in select US theaters starting January 2nd, 2026 early next year. Look any good?
