Glen Powell’s ‘Succession’ Meets ‘Ready or Not’ Box-Office Bomb Redeems Itself on Digital

While his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney managed to course-correct after a terrible box-office streak, Glen Powell is still in search of a much-needed win. Sweeney had a string of box-office underperformers to her name when she headlined The Housemaid towards the end of 2025; the movie emerged as her biggest hit ever, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide. This is nearly twice as much as Anyone But You‘s impressive $220 million worldwide haul from a few years earlier. Powell, on the other hand, went on to star in director Edgar Wright‘s action film The Running Man, based on a book by Stephen King. The movie flopped at the box office, putting the pressure on Powell’s follow-up.

How to Make a Killing was released theatrically only a few months after The Running Man, but it was never expected to be a massive hit. Unlike Wright’s dystopian action movie, which made around $70 million worldwide against a reported budget of $110 million, Powell’s most recent film cost around $15 million. However, it wasn’t able to recoup even this amount at the box office, grossing only $13 million in its lifetime run a few weeks ago. To make matters worse, the film received mixed reviews and is now sitting at a 44% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. By comparison, The Running Man seems to have settled at a 61% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, both movies have been embraced by audiences at home, which is reflected in their 77% audience scores on the aggregator.

The Running Man has already proven its mettle on home video, ranking among the most-watched movies on Paramount+ for weeks. And now, it is the turn of How to Make a Killing to redeem itself. According to FlixPatrol, How to Make a Killing was among the most-watched titles on the domestic iTunes and Amazon charts this week, setting itself up for a strong second life at home. The movie’s satire on class and wealth — it follows a man who goes on a killer quest to reclaim his inheritance — seems to have struck a chord with audiences. Directed by John Patton Ford, How to Make a Killing also features Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Ed Harris.
