With a long career in communications and public relations, Tomi Talabi understands how brand storytelling can shape public perception. “I think about how communities move industries forward,” she said. “That work made me understand who gets centered, who gets overlooked and who is often driving culture without receiving full credit.”

It’s that awareness that led her to launch Black Beauty Club, a social enterprise that connects Black beauty content creators, founders and supporters to exchange ideas, foster collaboration and turn cultural ownership into real-world impact. Founded in 2020, the platform began as a digital-only hub on Clubhouse, the invite-only social app. Today, it’s evolved into an IRL community that hosts dinners, panels and salon-style conversations.

“I saw a real gap in the beauty industry where Black people were contributing so much to beauty at every level, and even I wasn’t fully aware to what extent,” she told Fashionista. “There were very few spaces bringing that full ecosystem together in a meaningful way. I wanted to create something that wasn’t just about representation, but about recognition, connection and authorship.”

On The Fashionista Network, Talabi discussed The Black Beauty Club’s growth, its impact in the beauty space, her advice for brand founders and more. Watch the full interview on YouTube or listen on Spotify Podcasts below.
