Influencer Paul Kim said goodbye to his 5-year-old son, Micah, in an emotional funeral mass.
“What was supposed to feel like a funeral liturgy felt more like an ordination Mass,” Kim wrote via Instagram on Sunday, January 18. “While our sorrow is so real, the joy of offering our son to the service of the Lord in Heaven for his new mission makes our cup overflow. Micah is not dead; he is alive in Christ!”
Kim said the funeral mass for his child was “the Catholic Church at her best” with priests, family and friends present from all around the country.
“We had the most beautiful music provided that helped lift our grieving hearts with gratitude and praise,” Kim shared with photos from the service. “We had Micah’s Godmother doing the first reading, and his Godfather presiding over the Mass. We had the blessing of being able to use one of the most beautiful parishes in the area.”
On January 1, Kim announced that his son had died after a medical emergency. It was later revealed that Micah had a very severe case of the flu that prompted sepsis.
Weeks after Micah’s death, Paul’s wife, Maggie Kim, shared another personal update on their family.
Weeks before Micah went into the hospital, Maggie found out she was pregnant with a baby girl. She later experienced a miscarriage in December 2025.
“I share this now because her life was important too. And although December of 2025 will always be marked as the most painful and devastating month of my life, I will also remember it as a time when my friends and family rallied around us,” Maggie wrote via Instagram on Friday, January 16. “This village of ours is irreplaceable. God knew we would need these people. And one of the lessons I’m learning is that He is a God who provides and keeps His promises.”
Maggie added, “I will be burying my two babies together this week. The thought of Micah meeting his siblings for the first time in Heaven fills me with awe. And I’m so glad they’re together, waiting for me.”
As the Kim family navigates their grief, both Paul and Maggie have vowed to stay faithful to their Catholic faith.
Paul also continues to share stories via social media from followers who have been moved by Micah’s life.
“In this past month, I’ve experienced the veil separating heaven and earth torn back further than I have my entire life,” he shared via Instagram on Thursday, January 15. “While my son is not a canonized saint (yet), he is clearly with the Lord (Who is having a lot of trouble saying no to this incredibly cute and loving son of ours). I am collecting all the receipts to eventually submit to the Church to be formally investigated. To God be all the glory.”
In a previous post, Paul also asked followers to honor Micah and his life by exploring faith in their own families.
“The family that prays together, stays together,” he shared. “I love you Micah, and I won’t ever stop you again from praying for whoever you want to pray for.”
