But with its latest season, J.Crew seems to be putting more weight behind its updated collar. A new set of point-collar poplin shirts has caught our editor’s eye again. The collar spreads out and extends gracefully further than it had in almost two decades. Now you don’t have to worry about your shirt collars being too short to lay under your suit jacket. And J.Crew’s gone deeper into colorways and patterns, too.
A classic, everyday light blue, a spring-ready lavender, and a crisp white poplin make up the solid colors, while a host of stripes and checks—including the infamous J.Crew gingham—are all on offer. Its heritage-inspired 1983 line now includes Oxford cloth button-downs in a gaggle of colorways and stripes, each one cut with a more generous collar. For the hardline preppies, praise be, that does mean a better collar roll.
Trailblazers and early adopters are quick to point out that skinny is already coming back. These shirts ain’t for you, dog. For the legions of dudes who’ve widened their pants and loosened their jackets, now you can have a shirt that finally looks like it matches.
