Ohana means family, which means no one gets left behind, not even Stitch. “Lilo & Stitch,” the live-action remake of Disney’s classic animated feature, officially landed on Disney+ as of Sept. 3 and is available to stream now.
For a limited time, Disney+ is offering a new streaming bundle with Disney+, ESPN Unlimited, and Hulu. “Lilo & Stitch” premiered in theaters on May 23. The film follows a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo (Maia Kealoha) who befriends an unidentified blue alien who crash-lands onto Earth from space. Stitch quickly becomes a close friend for Lilo, who is an oddball outcast in her community and lives with her big sister Nani (Sydney Agudong). The two find themselves both hunted by extraterrestrials who want to bring Stitch back to his planet.
“Lilo & Stitch” was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who previously directed A24’s stop-motion film, ‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” in 2021. The remake also marked Kealoha’s acting debut, and she starred alongside Sydney Agudong as Nani, Billy Magnussen as Agent Wendell Pleakley, Hannah Waddingham as the Grand Councilwoman, Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, and Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles. The live-version adaptation also starred cameos from original cast members from the 2000 animated film, such as Amy Hill, Tia Carrere, and Jason Scott Lee. Chris Sanders, the original voice actor for Stitch and the first film’s director, reprised his role for the live-action adaptation.
“Lilo & Stitch” opened to a huge $182.6 million for the domestic Memorial Day weekend box office, which helped set a record alongside Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” The film became the first Hollywood release to hit $1 billion at the worldwide box office in 2025.
