Mike Flanagan’s Groundbreaking Home Invasion Slasher Is Getting a Scary New 4K Steelbook

There are few modern horror filmmakers that can scare people as much as Mike Flanagan can. His unique blend of psychological real-world chills and tense atmosphere can’t be matched. Especially when you consider the director’s trailblazing Netflix work. Now, one of the filmmaker’s most underrated films that used to be a streaming original is getting a haunting new 4K version.

The latest physical media edition of Hush will be a three-disc 4K/Blu-ray combo pack steelbook. The artwork is a sleek black design that plays into the hook of this slasher. An outline of an ear is featured on the steelbook with Hush’s eerie white-masked killer in the center of it. Like the film itself, it’s simplistic but extremely effective. The inside artwork features a shot from Hush of Kate Siegel’s Maddie hiding from the killer, played by John Gallagher Jr. This limited edition release will feature all the same special features as the 2024 slipcover version made by Scream Factory. That includes the memorable “Shush Cut” of the film.

Preserving a Modern Slasher Classic

When Hush released in 2016, it was dumped on Netflix with very little promotion. Flanagan released Absentia and Oculus at this point, but the director hadn’t hit the mainstream audience. This would come later in 2018 with The Haunting of Hill House. Yet, despite being buried in the Netflix original graveyard, it slowly grew an audience thanks to Flanagan’s creative take on the home invasion and slasher sub-genres. We’re not going to spoil anything here, but the way the filmmaker uses audio, and the lack of it, in this nightmare is scream-worthy to say the least. Hush’s 91% certified-fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes can speak for itself.

That said, even with that high praise and cult following, Netflix removed Hush around the same time their contract with Flanagan expired in late 2022. For a few good months you couldn’t watch the film anywhere. That was a shame given Flanagan’s rising popularity with films like Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game as well as TV shows like Bly Manor, The Midnight Club and Midnight Mass. The latter of which, Hush, shares a fun connection to. Thankfully, Scream Factory rescued Hush from its dark void. They released Hush for the first time on physical media and paid VOD platforms last fall.

Where Can You Stream ‘Hush’?

Hush is currently streaming for free on Tubi. However, if you like watching your horror films on physical media, you can pre-order Hush’s new 4K steelbook on Scream Factory’s Website. The edition will be $39.99 USD and will be released on October 28, 2025 – just in time for Halloween.
