New Venom Movie Set, First Details and Directors Revealed

In a surprise bit of news, a new Venom movie is in the works from Sony, but it won’t be anything like the past three movies the studio has produced.

What do we know about the new Venom movie?

According to a new report from THR, a new Venom movie is in the works, but it will be an animated film rather than a live-action one. Furthermore, THR notes that Sony has tapped Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing duo behind the recently released Final Destination Bloodlines, to direct the project.

For those wondering about Tom Hardy’s involvement, THR also notes that the star, who played Eddie Brock/Venom throughout Sony’s first three movies, is involved in the project “in some capacity.” It’s unclear if this means Hardy is simply producing the movie, or if he’s returning to voice the character in the movie.

No writer or other casting information have been revealed as of now. Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are likely to produce the movie after also working on the first three movies. The character of Venom was created by writer Bill Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane, and introduced in 1988’s Amazing Spider-Man No. 300.

The character has been one of the most fan-favorite comic characters since his introduction, and is often seen as one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. In 2018, Sony released the first Venom movie starring Hardy, and would release two sequels, 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance, in the years since. All three films were massive box office success, grossing a total of $1.8 billion at the box office.
