A polarizing-yet-popular entry in Nike’s Air Max franchise has just received the brand’s upgraded Premium treatment akin to what’s been seen on the Pegasus and Vomero running models, and pairs are already selling out.

The Nike Air Max 270 Premium updates the Air Max 270 lifestyle sneaker with new materials and adds a visible Air Zoom unit to the forefoot. The pair retains the shoe’s original Air Max 93-inspired design, but also applies thicker, more structured components to the upper, which will in theory increase the lifespan of the model. 

While the original Air Max 270, first released in 2018, was shunned by some purists, the sneaker was a massive hit for the Beaverton, Ore.-based sportswear company. It featured what Nike touted as its biggest visible heel Air unit intended to provide a “super-soft ride that brings you even closer to the feeling of walking on air.” 

It’s also described in marketing materials as Nike’s first-ever Air Max shoe intended specifically for lifestyle use, although many of the brand’s retro Air Max sneakers had long been embraced for casual wear before the 270 arrived.

By 2019, the Air Max 270 had become not only one of Nike’s best sellers, but according to research firm NPD Group, it was the top-selling sneaker in the U.S.

The Air Max 270 has received notable updates before, including an Air Max 270 React version updated with more responsive foam and leather-based variations.

Despite arriving this month without much of a rollout from Nike, the Air Max 270 Premium is already selling out quickly. It’s available now in select sizes in a White/Black/Metallic Silver/Dusty Cactus colorway (style code IO9883-103) inspired by the original Air Max 270 with several more styles expected to be released throughout the year.

The upgraded model retails for $180 and can be purchased from nike.com and select Nike Sportswear retailers.
