As streamers continue to carve out their niches, Prime Video has established a strong presence in the young adult genre. Stories about romance, family, and friendship have propelled the streaming service to the top of this evergreen genre. The Summer I Turned Pretty epitomizes this success. The series is one of the most popular shows on the platform and a notable romance drama of recent years. It has consistently topped the platform’s top-ten chart since its premiere in 2022. The series finale aired on September 17, but the show has consistently remained among Prime Video’s most popular shows.
However, the second season of the hit German romance drama series, Maxton Hall — The World Between Us, premiered recently, and it has displaced The Summer I Turned Pretty for the top position according to streaming data from FlixPatrol. Maxton Hall — The World Between Us is currently the number one show on Prime Video in most countries, including the U.S., UK, and South Africa. The show has received widespread acclaim for its portrayal of the main characters’ romance and individual lives. Viewers have given the show an 89% rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, indicating general acclaim. The description for Season 2 teases:
“Those who fly high can also fall low…After their passionate night together in Oxford and her greatest life goal within reach, everything seems to be going perfectly for Ruby (Harriet Herbig-Matten). But a stroke of fate in James’ (Damian Hardung) family changes everything and James himself, of all people, brings her back from cloud nine to a harsh reality. Ruby is devastated. She has never had such strong feelings for anyone as she does for James — and she has never been so hurt by anyone either. She wants her old life back, where no one at Maxton Hall knew her and she wasn’t part of the elitist world of her classmates. But she can’t forget James — especially since he’s doing everything he can to win her back.”
Who Is Behind ‘Maxton Hall — The World Between Us’?
The series is based on the novel Save Me by Mona Kasten. Martin Schreier serves as director and head writer, with Ceylan Yildir, Juliana Lima Dehne, and Marlene Melchior completing the writing team. Joining Herbig-Matten and Hardung are other cast members: Sonja Weißer (Lydia), Ben Felipe (Cyril), Fedja van Huêt (Mortimer), Runa Greiner (Ember), Justus Riesner (Alistair), Andrea Guo (Lin), Frederic Balonier (Kieran), and Eli Riccardi (Elaine). New episodes are released on Fridays, with the season finale scheduled for November 28.
