Reese Witherspoon is mourning the tragic death of James Van Der Beek.

On Wednesday (February 11), the Dawson’s Creek star passed away after battling colorectal cancer since August 2023. He was 48.

Last year, James filmed scenes for the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, which will mark his final acting role.

Following news of his death, Reese – who is an executive producer on Elle – took to her Instagram Story to pay tribute to James.

“Praying all the angels watch over his family during this difficult time,” she added.

Lexi Minetree, who will be playing Elle Woods in the Prime Video series, also paid tribute to her late co-star.

“Oh James…words cannot express how much you will be missed,” Lexi, 24, wrote on her Instagram Story. “Thank you for your strength of spirit and artistry.”

Elle is slated to premiere on July 1st on Prime Video. It has also already been renewed for a second season.
