Robert Pattinson doesn’t seem like one to make a fuss about things, especially getting dressed. The British actor is just as likely to hit the Cannes Film Festival in Converse sneakers as he is to attend a movie premiere wearing a disheveled runway look from Dior. All this to say, the 39-year-old star tends to dress like a guy who hasn’t been fawned over for years by tweens, donned Batman’s cowl to exact vengeance on his enemies, and worked with this generation’s greatest directors.
Pattinson is currently out promoting the new A24 film The Drama, in which he stars alongside Zendaya. The rom-com drama-thriller centers around an engaged couple whose love for each other is tested when an unexpected reveal occurs right before their wedding, and, as usual, Zendaya and her longtime stylist Law Roach have been implementing elements of the film into her promotional style. Her red-carpet run has been influenced by the old Victorian-era superstition “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” Pattinson, on the other hand, hasn’t been as interested in implementing that much flair into his style, save for his usual hands-off style, which incidentally suggests the passive attitude of a groom who’s taken a backseat to the wedding-planning process.
Which is not necessarily a bad thing, in this particular non-wedding context. Just look at the actors’ disparate getups during their Tonight Show appearance this week. Zendaya wore a dusky blue Zimmerman boudoir-style lace dress, while Pattinson dressed down in light-wash jeans, a partially unbuttoned moss-colored shirt, and a relaxed blazer. In short, two outfits so dissimilar that make you wonder if those people are even going to the same event. For Pattinson, he doesn’t have to try too hard, and it gives his co-star the opportunity to shine. (It’s the bride’s day, after all—right?) His nice, normal outfit is a nice model for how famous guys can and should be approaching press-tour dressing, which has become an increasingly chaotic field for menswear.
