Russell Crowe’s Team-Up With One of the 21st Century’s Best Sci-Fi Stars Becomes a Sleeper Hit

In the World War II movie, Nuremberg, Academy Award winner Russell Crowe‘s latest performance as infamous Nazi Hermann Göring earned him plenty of praise. Although the veteran never seemed likely to earn an Oscar nomination for the role, with the recent announcements confirming that, some still believed his name should have been more heavily involved in the discourse. Having since made waves on the streaming charts, Nuremberg has now been followed by another recent Crowe performance in proving popular at home.

The 2024 crime thriller Sleeping Dogs, which stars Crowe alongside Doctor Who and MCU favorite Karen Gillan, is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Paramount+ in the U.S., with the list currently topped by the Glen Powell-led The Running Man. Based on The Book of Mirrors by E.O. Chirovici, the movie is directed by Adam Cooper and crafted from a Cooper and Bill Collage screenplay. Sleeping Dogs split critics and audiences, best illustrated on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with the former awarding a disappointing 43% and the latter a strong 80%. This list also includes Garrett Hedlund‘s 2025 crime flick Barron’s Cove, the hugely successful blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, the 2020 Canadian thriller Wander, and the forgotten Channing Tatum movie Fighting. Elsewhere on the list, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is one of the five most popular movies, which also includes Tatum’s critically acclaimed action comedy film Roofman and the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, Regretting You.
