A decade after the release of the iconic musical La La Land, Ryan Gosling has taken matters into his own hands. With the 10th anniversary of the film just as his new sci-fi project hits theaters, the actor orchestrated a clever tribute that addresses a personal pet peeve. The result is a reimagined movie poster that merges his past and present roles.
La La Land’s poster gets recreated by Ryan Gosling for tenth anniversary
Ryan Gosling’s new poster recreates the iconic pose from the 2016 Oscar-nominated musical La La Land, but with a twist linked to his upcoming film Project Hail Mary. The original poster featured Gosling and Emma Stone dancing under the Los Angeles skyline. In the updated version, Gosling appears with Rocky, a character from the upcoming sci-fi story.
The recreation allowed Gosling to address the famous “La La Hand” pose from the original poster. In a behind-the-scenes video of the photoshoot, the actor joked about correcting the pose. “Here’s my Hail Mary attempt to fix my La La Hand, and my buddy Rocky is going to help me,” he said. During the shoot, Gosling even asked his team, “How’s my hand?” before being reassured that it looked great.
The poster was shared through Project Hail Mary’s official Instagram account and mirrors the visual style of the original artwork. Instead of the classic tagline “Here’s to the fools who dream,” the updated design reads, “Believe in the Hail Mary.” The caption also references the film’s music, stating, “A city of stars shining just for them,” a nod to the song “City of Stars.”
In a 2024 interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ryan Gosling admitted the poster haunts him. He revealed that he had ignored advice on set regarding his hand position, thinking his idea was “cooler.” He then regretted the choice, calling himself, “Hamburger hands Gosling over here.”
La La Land remains available on digital platforms. Project Hail Mary is releasing in theaters on March 20.
