The Asia Pacific Screen Academy has unveiled the jury lineup for the 18th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, with Indian actor Shahana Goswami heading the international jury for the ceremony taking place Nov. 27 at The Langham, Gold Coast.
Goswami, whose credits include “Rock On!!,” “Firaaq,” “A Suitable Boy,” “Bombay Begums,” “Zwigato” and “Santosh,” brings a global perspective to the role, having worked across more than 35 projects in four languages. The multi-award-winning actor will lead a panel of filmmakers and industry leaders in recognizing excellence in Asia Pacific cinema.
Joining Goswami on the international jury are Al Cossar, artistic director of the Melbourne International Film Festival; Ani Hoo, a Singapore-based post-production supervisor and producer; Tearepa Kahi, the Māori filmmaker behind “Muru” (2022 APSA Cultural Diversity Award winner), “Poi E: The Story of Our Song” and “Mt. Zion”; and Dan Villegas, the Filipino director and producer known for “English Only, Please,” “Exes Baggage” and Netflix’s “Replacing Chef Chico.”
The ceremony will be held on the traditional land of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh Language Region. International guests walking the red carpet include Goswami, actor and ceremony host Shuang Hu, and Indian director-producer-writer and 2025 APSA nominee Rima Das.
Australian attendees include celebrated actor and Asia Pacific Screen Academy president Jack Thompson, director Nick Waterman (“How to Make Gravy”), musician and screenwriter Meg Washington (“How to Make Gravy,” “The Deb”), Academy Award-nominated producer and Bazmark managing director Schuyler Weiss, and broadcaster Mike Goldman.
The youth, animation, documentary jury will be led by Yulia Evina Bhara, founder of Indonesia’s KawanKawan Media and recognized by Variety as one of the International Impactful Women of 2023. Bhara’s producing credits include “Autobiography,” “Tiger Stripes,” “Dreaming & Dying,” “Renoir” and “The Fox King.” She will be joined by Japanese writer-director Fujimoto Akio (“Passage of Life,” “Along the Sea,” “Lost Land”) and Indian documentarian Nishtha Jain (“Farming the Revolution,” “Gulabi Gang”).
The MPA APSA Academy Film Fund jury will be chaired for the second year by Hong Kong’s Kiki Fung, programme consultant for the Hong Kong International Film Festival. Fung will be joined by Ngo Thi Bich Hanh, vice president of the Vietnam Film Development Association, and Weiss.
APSA chair Tracey Vieira emphasized the juries’ regional significance, stating they “showcase the extraordinary depth of talent across the Asia Pacific — from bold new voices to master filmmakers.”
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said the awards “celebrate a whole world of filmmaking while also amplifying Queensland’s creative voice on a truly global stage.”
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards recognize cinematic excellence across 78 countries and areas representing 4.5 billion people and producing half of the world’s films.
