Scary New Teaser for Curry Barker’s ‘Obsession’ Romance Horror Film

“Do you still think I’m pretty?” Focus Features has revealed the full official trailer for the indie horror film Obsession, which has tons of rave reviews since premiering at festivals last year. This trailer is out timed to Valentine’s Day for sneaky plot-related reasons. The second feature from director Curry Barker premiered at TIFF then played at Fantastic Fest and other genre fests. “A bold new voice in horror.” After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” stick to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a very dark, sinister price. Be careful what you wish for… Starring Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, and Megan Lawless. Ready to hit theaters in May to kick off the summer. Everyone says this film is best experienced without knowing anything else watching, because the way it unravels and twists and turns is extra thrilling.

A young man’s desperate romantic longing for his lifelong platonic love triggers a very sinister spell: Nikki (Inde Navarrette) will become so irrationally obsessed that she ends up turning into Bear’s (Michael Johnston) shadow. What starts out as a seemingly harmless fantasy eventually evolves into a disturbing nightmare. A powerful metaphor about the objectification of romantic relationships and the lengths we are willing to go to when driven by our desire to be loved in return. Obsession is written and directed by American indie actor / writer / filmmaker Curry Barker, director of the film Milk & Serial previously, plus tons of other short films. Produced by James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri. This initially premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival earlier this year.
