Sitges Winner Fish Wang Sets Taiwanese Creative Content Fest Animation Title ‘Wondering Tales of Blossmoss’

Taiwanese animation director Fish Wang, winner of best animated short at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival for his work “Ghost of the Dark Path,” returns to the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) 2025 with a new project that expands upon the universe of his previous VR animated short “Red Tail” (2022).

“Wondering Tales Of Blossmoss” (Taiwan-Hong Kong-Japan-France) continues Wang’s exploration of emotionally charged storytelling, extending the narrative into a feature-length format. The story delves into themes of memory, loss, and coming-of-age, blending elements of fantasy and imagination with the intimacy of personal reflection.

At its core, the story poses a universal question — “Does life’s trauma lead to growth or become a burden?” To bring this concept to life, Wang collaborates with Hong Kong screenwriter Toe Yuen and co-producer Polly Yeung, who helped connect the project with partners in Japan and France.

Aimed at audiences aged 12 and above, “Wondering Tales Of Blossmoss” combines humor and visual charm with philosophical undertones, crafting an animated world that is both whimsical and deeply reflective.

Longtime collaborator Sanvy Hsieh, who also worked with Wang on “Red Tail,” says Wang’s role in the new project extends well beyond directing.

“Fish isn’t just the director — he’s shaping the aesthetic identity of the entire work and providing the core narrative framework for the writing team,” Hsieh says. “As a producer, my job is to keep asking questions — from both a production and audience perspective — to make sure the story maintains a consistent tone and rhythm throughout development.”

Currently in early development, the project has been selected for the TCCF Pitching program in the animation category. The team plans to share “Wondering Tales Of Blossmoss” — along with Wang’s broader creative vision — with industry professionals, animation creators, and other festival participants.

“We expect to have the first script draft completed by December, and we see TCCF as a great platform to raise international visibility and open doors for future co-productions,” Hsieh adds.

For Wang, “Wondering Tales Of Blossmoss”, which has been in development since 2023, also represents an effort to address the limited global exposure of Taiwanese animation.

“Taiwan’s animated features often struggle to be seen internationally,” Wang says. “By involving international partners early in the creative process, I hope to bring a broader perspective and stronger global potential to the project. The theme of growth through experience is universal — a story that transcends age and culture, inviting audiences to grow alongside the protagonist.”

TCCF 2025 runs Nov. 4-7 at Taipei’s Nangang Exhibition Center.
