We may not have a trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day yet, but Marvel’s got two new comic books to capitalize on the upcoming film.
Earlier this week, the publisher announced Spider-Man: Long Way Home from Jonathan Hickman and Adam Kubert. The five-issue story sees Peter working with and against his future cinematic co-stars, the Hulk and the Punisher, to get the Cosmic Cube from AIM in South America. None of them trust each other, and over the course of the adventure, things will go to hell for each of them. Long Way Home, similar to Hickman and Greg Capullo’s Wolverine: Revenge, is in its own continuity and early enough in Hulk and Punisher’s individual careers that they’re basically urban legends.
On the other end of the spectrum, you’ve got Dan Slott, Marcus To, and Marcos Martin’s Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This ongoing series sees Spider-Man get his hands on a directory called the Lexicon that has key information on the Kingpin’s operations around New York, which he thinks he can do some good with. Unfortunately, it also puts a target on his back with not just Kingpin, but also Mr. Negative and the Punisher.
While Negative and Kingpin aren’t fully confirmed for Brand New Day, Hulk and Punisher have been, and were featured in leaks of the film’s trailer late last year. It’s safe to say these two books put Spidey back in synergy mode, regardless of how long Spectacular runs, and you probably shouldn’t be surprised if other characters from the film, like Scorpion, Tombstone, or even Daredevil, show up in the pages of either book.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, preceded by Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day hitting shelves on May 13 and Spider-Man: Long Way Home on June 17.
