Treble-chasing Bayern Munich beat host Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 on Wednesday with goals from Harry Kane and Luis Diaz to reach the German Cup (DFB Pokal) final for the first time in six years.
The host was no match for the Bavarians, who were fresh from securing the league title on Sunday and in control for much of the game. Bayern also travels to Paris Saint-Germain next week for their Champions League semi-final first leg.
Leverkusen tried to stay competitive for about 20 minutes but then found itself 1-0 down with Kane drilling in from close range in the 22nd minute for his seventh goal in the competition this season.
“It was a top performance from start to finish,” Kane said. “We pressed them and won the ball high. We should’ve scored more goals and decided the game earlier.”
“Overall they didn’t create many chances and we deserved the win. We said at the start of the season that the German Cup was a goal. I’m really happy we made it there.”
The England international, who was man of the match and also leads the scorers’ list in the Bundesliga with 32 goals, went close again in the 40th minute with a powerful shot that flew narrowly wide.
By half-time, Bayern, without injured Serge Gnabry who will also miss the World Cup with an adductor muscle tear, had nine shots on goal to Leverkusen’s zero.
Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand is under pressure with his team also in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season. Yet his players became more aggressive after the break.
Nathan Tella tested Bayern’s Manuel Neuer with a low drive in the 52nd minute but the ‘keeper did well to palm it wide. The visitor, however, struck in stoppage time through Diaz to punch its ticket for the final. It will face the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between VfB Stuttgart and Freiburg.
“Since my first day at the club they have been talking about going back to Berlin and that we can bring them back there is a big thing for the club,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.
“It feels like we don’t have time to enjoy this success because we keep thinking of the next matches. But what matters is we are still in every competition.”

Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala missed much of the season due to a broken leg, and while he has already made an impact since returning to the pitch in January, coach Vincent Kompany is confident he will soon take his game to a whole new level.
The 23-year-old Germany international sustained a fibula fracture with a broken and dislocated ankle following a collision with then-Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Club World Cup last July.
After making his return at the start of the year, he has gradually earned more playing time as he bids to make Germany’s squad for the World Cup, which starts in June.
Fellow Bayern midfielder Serge Gnabry carried much of the load during Musiala’s absence but will be out of action for several weeks with an adductor muscle injury.
With Bayern set for a German Cup semifinal against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, Kompany needs Musiala to step up.
“Jamal is in a good phase at the moment,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.
“I said it early on, back in January, that he’s developed physically. He’s now also physically close to his best level, not just in terms of strength but also in terms of his willingness to run.
“Now the question is when will ‘Magic Musiala’ return? It will come 100%. The moments are there. But even now, what the lad is doing at the moment is very dangerous in front of goal.”
In 600 minutes of play, Musiala had accrued nine ‘scorer points’ — the combined number of assists and goals scored — in all competitions, said Kompany.

Treble-chasing Bayern, which has not reached the German Cup final since 2020, secured the Bundesliga title on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart with four matches left to play.
It also faces PSG next week in France in its Champions League semifinal first leg.
“When he has this total freedom again, and it will come back, then you will have an even more developed version of Musiala and that, as a coach, makes me happy,” Kompany added.
“But with nine scorer points in 600 minutes he has shown he is ready.”

FC Bayern Munich won its 13th Bundesliga title in the last 14 seasons after beating VfB Stuttgart 4-2 at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.
Bayern went into the game with 76 points from 29 matches and needed just a draw to mathematically secure the championship. The victory moved it an unassailable 15 points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund with four rounds remaining.
It has been a season to remember for Bayern, which has already crossed the 100-goal mark. Its biggest win of the campaign came in an 8-1 thrashing of VfL Wolfsburg, while Harry Kane leads the scoring charts with 32 goals.
Stuttgart took the lead through Chris Fuhrich in the 21st minute, briefly unsettling the host. But Bayern responded emphatically, with Raphael Guerreiro, Nicolas Jackson and Alphonso Davies scoring in a six-minute spell before half-time to turn the game around.

Kane added to the tally after coming on as a second-half substitute, as Bayern dominated proceedings and could have scored more against an overwhelmed Stuttgart defence.
Chema pulled one back late for Stuttgart with a spectacular strike in the 88th minute, but it proved only a consolation.
The title also marks Vincent Kompany’s second successive league triumph, having won the trophy in his debut season in 2024-25.

Bayern Munich supporters have apologised after several photographers were injured when fans stormed over barriers at the end of Wednesday’s home Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
With scores level in the tie, Bayern’s Luis Diaz and Michael Olise both scored late in the match to send the German champions through to the final four of the competition.
A group of fans from the Bayern ultras section climbed over barriers while celebrating, trampling pitch-side photographers.
Writing on social media, Reuters photographer Kai Pfaffenbach posted a picture of himself lying on the ground accompanied by a medical report saying he was “unconscious” after being overrun by fans at the end of the match.

“But one question: how could this have happened at a football match?” wrote Kai Pfaffenbach. | Photo Credit: Kai Pfaffenbach/Instagram

“For those asking, I’m fine. A few bruises but no fractures or brain damage,” Pfaffenbach said alongside a series of photos.
“But one question: how could this have happened at a football match?”
Another photographer suffered a head laceration and another needed medical attention for back and shoulder injuries.
One of the injured photographers told AFP that fans had already climbed a barrier and were waiting “for several minutes” before advancing into the pitch-side photographer’s area.
“If security staff had reacted and implemented the security measures, if they had intervened beforehand and protected us, or sent them back, then this could certainly have been avoided.”

Bayern Munich has been in contact with the injured photographers, as well as with the supporters, who have apologised for the incident.
Bayern supporter organisation Club Nr. 12 told AFP the group “regret the injuries sustained by the media representatives” during the match.
“To our knowledge, an exchange has already taken place between FC Bayern Munich and at least some of the fans involved, in which they expressed their deep regret for the accidental injuries and apologised.
“We believe this is the right approach and therefore welcome this action and the swift communication. We wish all those affected a speedy recovery.”
Earlier in the competition, Bayern’s southern stand made headlines for repeated use of pyrotechnics and was partially closed by governing body UEFA.
UEFA told AFP subsidiary SID on Thursday the organisation was aware of the incident but did not indicate yet whether an investigation would be launched.

Bayern Munich need just two goals at St Pauli on Saturday to break the 54-year goalscoring record for a Bundesliga season.
Vincent Kompany’s runaway league leaders have already scored 100 Bundesliga goals this season — just one goal short of the best mark in German top-flight history — with six matches of the 34-game campaign still to play.
The previous record was set in 1971-72 by a barnstorming Bayern side featuring club legends Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller and Uli Hoeness.
That Bayern has already brought up its Bundesliga century shows its dominance this term.
At its current rate, Bayern is on track for 121 goals, which would be a better mark than the record in either the Premier League or La Liga, which both have 38-game seasons.
Even the all-time mark in a top-five European league of 125, set by Torino in a 40-game Serie A season in 1947-48, would be within reach.
If Bayern may have to achieve the feat without Harry Kane, who is chasing a league record of his own.
With 31 goals in 26 Bundesliga appearances, Kane is 10 short of the all-time record of 41 set by Robert Lewandowski in 2020-21.

Kane missed England’s March internationals with an ankle injury but returned to score what proved to be the winner in Bayern’s 2-1 Champions League win at Real Madrid on Tuesday.
However the England captain did not look 100 percent and could be rested against St Pauli with Wednesday’s quarter-final second leg in mind.
One player almost certain to start is Michael Olise, who is also on track for a record-breaking season.
Olise, who assisted Kane’s goal against Real, has scored 18 Bundesliga goals so far this campaign, three short of the all-time record set by Thomas Mueller in 2019-20.

Harry Kane took part in training with his Bayern Munich teammates on Monday ahead of the German club’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first leg match at Real Madrid as he continues his recovery from an ankle niggle.
The striker picked up an injury while on international duty with England in late March, which caused him to pull out of last Tuesday’s friendly defeat to Japan at Wembley, with coach Thomas Tuchel saying the 32-year-old was suffering just a “minor” complaint.
Kane was then not included in the Bayern squad for Saturday’s 3-2 Bundesliga win at Freiburg.
On Monday, however, he appeared in good spirits on Bayern’s training ground during the 15-minute session, which was open to the press.
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany will delay his decision on whether to start Kane in Tuesday’s tie with Real Madrid until the evening of the match.
Kane has scored 48 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions this season, including 10 in nine Champions League outings.
