The Hollywood film Supergirl will release tomorrow, June 26, and in this article, Bollywood Hungama will focus on the cuts given to the film.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the film with a U/A 16+ certificate. However, the film had to go through several audio modifications. The word ‘screwed’ was asked to be deleted. Similarly, ‘b***h’ and ‘balls’ were also asked to be deleted.
Another word which was similarly censored was ‘wh**e’. Interestingly, 30 minutes footage of Supergirl was screened exclusively for select fans on June 20 in Mumbai. Bollywood Hungama was a part of that screening and one of the scenes shown had a dialogue with the word ‘wh**e’. It is uttered by the lead protagonists in a comical context.
Lastly, the middle finger visual was also asked to be deleted. Once these changes were made, Supergirl was passed on June 23. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 109.58 minutes. In other words, Supergirl is 1 hour, 49 minutes and 58 seconds long.
Meanwhile, Bollywood Hungama reported yesterday that Supergirl initially struggled to get shows due to wide showcasing given by multiplexes to this week’s big Hindi film, Welcome To The Jungle. Almost 24 hours later, the scenario is now better. But as per trade sources, Warner Bros’ struggle still continues for getting the desired showcasing.

The Hollywood film Supergirl will release tomorrow, June 26, and in this article, Bollywood Hungama…
This week will see the release of not just one of the most-awaited Hindi films of the year, Welcome To The Jungle, but also the Hollywood superhero entertainer, Supergirl. Both films will be released on Friday, June 26. However, as of 7:00 pm on June 24, the bookings for Supergirl have yet to begin.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “There’s tremendous excitement in the exhibition sector for Welcome To The Jungle. Moreover, the distributor of the comic caper has also requested extensive promotion. As a result, theatres have decided to adhere to it.”
The source continued, “Consequently, Supergirl is unable to get the desired number of shows. Warner Bros is clear that they are not asking for excessive showcasing. They have asked for 2 prime shows in 4-screen multiplexes and 3 prime shows in multiplexes with more than 4 screens. Yet, they are facing difficulty in securing showcasing. The negotiations are on and a solution is expected to be reached by Wednesday night or Thursday morning.”
As of 7:00 pm on June 24, Supergirl’s bookings had commenced only in Devgn CineX in The Walk in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The same multiplex chain has started bookings in Delhi and Ahmedabad as well. Smaller chains have taken the initiative in other cities. In Pune, not a single cinema hall has begun selling tickets. Similarly, the national chains, that is PVR Inox and Cinepolis, have not opened bookings in a single property in the entire North, Eastern and Western belt.
The source said, “Warner feels its demand is reasonable and that it is not asking for too many shows. They were among the few studios that released their films during the Covid period when Hindi filmmakers were shying away from theatrical releases. Hence, they feel they shouldn’t be given step-motherly treatment now that things have improved. The studio is hopeful that the issue will be resolved amicably and that Supergirl gets a fair showcasing.”

On June 10, Bollywood Hungama reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sprang a pleasant surprise by passing three crucial films of the week with zero cuts – Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past and Backrooms. However, the sole exception was Disclosure Day. The film received its censor certificate at the eleventh hour and was required to make a few cuts.

In a dialogue in the first act, the word ‘sex’ was muted. It occurs in the scene where Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor) learns that his girlfriend, Jane (Eve Hewson), was a nun. When asked whether she still follows the same religious commitments, Jane replies in the negative, pointing out that they’ve already had sex. It is in this dialogue that the CBFC made a change.
The other word that got muted was ‘f**k’, and it occurred twice in the film. Once these changes were made, Disclosure Day was passed with a U/A 13+ certificate on June 11. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, was 145 minutes and 36 seconds. In other words, Disclosure Day is 2 hours, 25 minutes and 36 seconds long.
Disclosure Day is directed by Steven Spielberg, who reunites with screenwriter David Koepp. Both had earlier collaborated on Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), War Of The Worlds (2005) and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008). This is also legendary composer John Williams’s 30th film with the popular filmmaker.
Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Eve Hewson. It tells the story of a small-time Kansas City reporter and cybersecurity specialist, Daniel Kellner. Both don’t seem to know the other, but they meet under mysterious circumstances while the world is in chaos.
The sci-fi film opened at 27.6 million USD worldwide and is expected to have a weekend of around 94 million USD. In India, it opened in the range of Rs. 1.75 crores and Rs. 2 crores. The start is fair considering the niche genre and the competition from new and holdover releases.

“It’s been go, go, go,” Parsons tells WIRED. “Even the tiniest bit of a break,” he says, would give him some better perspective on everything that’s happened over the past few years. But for the moment, he’s soaking up the limelight—and thinks it’ll be at least another month before he has the space to reflect on his big break.
Backrooms, a moody horror piece that stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, is a cerebral expansion of Parsons’ atmospheric YouTube web series of the same name. It marks his feature debut as A24’s youngest director to date, at the helm of a movie long anticipated by a huge and hungry internet fan base. You could hardly ask for a better kick start to summer blockbuster season.
Yet Parsons makes his meteoric success sound like something of an accident. “I never went into making that first short or making the series with the intention of, ‘I want to do this so I can prove to Hollywood that this is an engine that is viable for a film,’” he says.
That original nine-minute video, titled “The Backrooms (Found Footage)” and uploaded by Parsons in 2022, was inspired by—of all things—a sinister 4chan meme that spawned a collaborative mythology. The 2019 post on the notorious image board’s /x/ forum included a disquieting photo of an empty hallway bathed in sickly light. An anonymous user described being transported into “the Backrooms, where it’s nothing but the stink of old, moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in.”
“God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you,” the 4chan user added.
Other people took up the concept, creating spinoff imagery and stories on various social platforms. Parsons encountered these, as well as then-popular memes about surreal liminal spaces—the Backrooms being a paranormal extension of this phenomenon. He was intrigued by what this material evoked but felt it hadn’t been fully explored.
“It was clearly scratching something that I didn’t really see much other media scratching,” he says. “I think there was an element of like, I wish there was more for me to engage with here.”
To that end, Parsons decided to see whether he could conjure an immersive vision of the Backrooms with Blender 3D graphics software and Adobe After Effects. That initial video, in which a person is chased through the Backrooms by a malevolent life-form, went massively viral, with viewers marveling at Parsons’ technical skill and the chilling suspense he’d created. Fans excitedly speculated on the larger mythology of the uncanny setting. Within a month, studios were approaching Parsons with hopes for a full-length movie.
Although still a teenager at the time, Parsons knew enough to be wary of the offers. “I was very distrustful of pretty much everything that was happening, just because I feel like it’s a very common experience for that sort of event to turn into nothing,” he says. “Or you end up with less than nothing.”
Ultimately, however, he got what a young filmmaker dreams of: the chance to pursue his vision, in this case with top talent at his side. The feature film has a script by Homeland and Westworld writer Will Soodik, and its producers include horror maestros Osgood Perkins and James Wan.
The 20-year-old filmmaker Kane Parsons has risen to the top so fast that he’s had zero time to process how far he’s come.

Semafor reported Sunday that Canadian holding company Tiny, which owns some 60% of Letterboxd, has been courting various potential buyers, including Versant, the parent company of CNBC and MS NOW (formerly MSNBC). Another potential buyer is The Ankler, a popular Hollywood newsletter, according to Semafor. Tiny bought the platform in 2023, valuing it at over $50 million. It’s unclear whether the company has neared any sort of deal.
Representatives for Letterboxd and Tiny did not immediately provide comment when reached by TechCrunch.
Founded in 2011, Letterboxd saw a jump in users in the past few years, climbing to about 26 million users this year, up from 1.7 million in 2020, according to The New York Times. In recent years, the site has seen interest from movie studios, which see it both as a vehicle for marketing films and a source of information about moviegoer trends, as well as from the Oscars, which teamed up with the social platform in a digital content partnership several years ago.
Letterboxd has surged in popularity in recent years. Once a niche site for only the most fervent of film nerds, the site — which allows users to rate, review, and recommend movies to one another — has continued to add accounts by the tens of millions, thanks largely to interest from millennials and Gen Z. Now, the company’s controlling investor has apparently made it known that they are looking to cash out.
