Karandeep Kochhar fired a bogey-free 4-under 68 on the final day to register yet another top-10 finish this season at the $500,000 IGPL Bharath Classic in Morocco. The lanky Chandigarh golfer finished T-9, his third top-10 of the year, which carried him up to 12th place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Kochhar, who had rounds of 66-73-70-68, totalled 11-under, as Sweden’s Charlie Lindh (69-70-67-64) totalled 18-under for a comprehensive win. Lindh was second in his last outing at the Kolon Korea Open, and this week he produced a very consistent performance that saw him rise to third on the Order of Merit. Lindh closed his win in a commanding manner, landing an eagle on the 18th for a four-shot win.
The tournament was co-sanctioned by the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) and the Asian Tour.
Among other Indian IGPL players, Gaganjeet Bhullar (75-70-69-68) and Yashas Chandra (75-68-71-68) at 6-under were the next best at T-27. Bhullar had five birdies against one bogey, while Yashas was bogey-free in his 68.
Rashid Khan, with a final round of 71 and a total of 3-under, was T-41, as were Kartik Singh (71) and Sachin Baisoya (67), whose final round had two eagles on the Par-5 third and Par-5 seventh. Kartik had an action-packed round with seven birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys.
Shaurya Bhattacharya, after a good start, finished close with 71 with three birdies and a double bogey and was T-52, while Aman Raj (70) was T-56, Pukhraj Singh Gill (75) was T-59, and Raghav Chugh (77) was T-64, as was Udayan Mane (73). Amateur Jai Bahl (74) finished T-67.
Winner of IGPL Dubai, Kochhar had an outstanding week in terms of hitting, as he found a lot of fairways and greens in regulation. However, the putter could have been better, as he needed 28 or more putts on each of the four days, including 34 on the second day when he shot 73.
Kochhar, who was T-5 at the International Series Japan, is now looking forward to the $2M International Series Morocco as he continues his search for a maiden Asian Tour win after having had a maiden win in Egypt on the Asian Development Tour, which had led to him gaining an Asian Tour card.
Kochhar birdied the third, 10th, 11th and the 14th, as he had 16 birdies during the week and left many more on the course.
The 28-year-old Lindh started the day three behind the overnight leader, Thailand’s Settee Prakongvech, but his eight-under par 64 was also the best round of the tournament.
Lindh, who had his childhood friend Isaac Bondesson on his bag, reached the edge of the green on the 18th in two shots and then putted from the fringe from 20 feet for the eagle.
Lindh said, “It feels good…feels really good. Feels like I’m still focused, but when everything settles a little bit, I will realise what I have done today. I have been playing well coming into this week, and I have been very, very excited to play golf the last couple of months because the game has been feeling better. And thankfully, I got some good results today.”
Lindh now goes to next week’s $2M International Series Morocco with a lot of confidence.
The Asian Tour will now move to the capital, Rabat, for the $2M International Series Morocco.

LIV Golf appoints independent board, targets new investors after loss of Saudi backing
LIV Golf moved quickly to establish a new direction on Thursday after confirmation that Saudi backing for the circuit is set to end, announcing a new board and a search for long-term financial partners.
Sources at Reuters said on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund would cut funding, which has totalled more than $1 billion a year since 2022, at the end of the league’s 2026 season.
Without mentioning PIF, LIV on Thursday announced a “transition from a foundational launch phase to a diversified, multi-partner investment model” and a new independent board led by business consultants Gene Davis and Jon Zinman.
LIV upended golf in late 2021 when, armed with PIF’s backing, it enticed some of the sport’s biggest names to leave the long-established PGA Tour.
Major winners Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed were all recruited to play team golf around the world for millions of dollars in prize money.
The league will now need to convince its big-name players, who are on lucrative contracts, of its long-term viability without Saudi backing.

Abhay Singh loses to former world No 1 Gawad in Zurich thriller
India’s Abhay Singh lost to Egyptian former World No. 1 and world champion Karim Gawad in a thriller in the men’s quarterfinals of the Grasshopper Cup, a PSA Gold-level event, in Zurich.
World No 24 Singh recovered from 6-0 down to force the opening game into tie-break, and went toe-to-toe with world No 4 Gawad in the second, before the Egyptian second seed clinched the contest 12-10, 11-9.
“The pace was really fast, we’ve only played twice but I feel like we’ve played more than that. In Qatar (2025) he (Singh) beat me in four and today I got on court and thought I don’t want to lose again,” Gawad said.
“In best of three with one of the smartest and talented players on Tour, you can never see what he’s thinking with the next shot or the next rally. He can come back with crazy points as you saw in the first game when I was 7-0 up and he came back out of nowhere (and) in less than three minutes we were tied,” the Egyptian added.

Dhoni, Pandya, Bumrah and other stars invest in ‘eCricket’ gaming app
M.S. Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, along with Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Tilak Varma and Sai Sudharsan, have come on board as investors in ‘eCricket’, a AAA title from India with global ambitions, slated for release on mobile in 2026.
With cricket commanding a global audience estimated to be over 2.5 billion, LightFury—the publisher of eCricket—aims to address a significant gap in the sports gaming category by delivering a technically advanced, competitive, and live-service-driven cricket gaming franchise from India.
The 100-strong studio combines creative vision with technical innovation to create globally competitive games.
“I’ve seen a lot of cricket games over the years, and there’s always been something missing. When LightFury showed me what they were working on, I felt they were trying to close that gap. It’s a big undertaking, building something like this out of India for a global audience,” Dhoni was quoted in a release.
Founded in 2024 by Karan Shroff, Anurag Banerjee, and Tina Balachandran, LightFury Games is an India-based AAA-focused game-tech studio dedicated to building high-quality, cutting-edge gaming experiences. The leadership team has worked on more than 40 AAA titles.
Hardik Pandya said, “Cricket is pressure, skill, and entertainment all at once. Fans want to feel that energy. What excites me about eCricket is that it is not trying to make cricket smaller for gaming. It is trying to make gaming rise to the scale of cricket.”
Earlier this year, LightFury Games also announced securing a global player roster licence of over 600 professional cricketers, featuring stars like Chris Gayle, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Pat Cummins, Jos Buttler, Travis Head, and Andre Russell—marking one of the largest rosters in cricket gaming.

The country’s emerging track and field talents will be put to the test when the three-day National Junior (Under-20) Athletics Federation competition gets underway at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Tumkur, Karnataka, on Friday, with many eyes on a future in India colours.
With an eye on next month’s Asian U-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, the competition is expected to be intense, especially after the Athletics Federation of India announced stringent qualification standards for the continental meet, raising the stakes for young athletes eager to prove their credentials on the national stage.
The first medal events on day one will be the 5,000m races in both the men’s and women’s sections, but the spotlight will firmly be on the 100m sprint, where promising Jharkhand sprinter Parth Singh will test his mettle against Odisha’s Pratik Maharana, among others.
Parth enjoyed an impressive season last year and will be keen to stamp his authority on the event, which has drawn a staggering 79 entries, while the men’s 200m has attracted an equally crowded field of 93 competitors.
The meet will also serve as an ideal platform for Odisha’s international 400m runner Bapi Hansda, who is making a comeback after a lengthy injury layoff sustained during the 2025 National Games in Uttarakhand.
Kerala’s rising quarter-miler Mohammed Ashfaq has also confirmed his entry and will be eager to cement his place in the national team for the Hong Kong meet, with as many as 89 athletes in the fray.
The opening day will also crown the fastest female athlete, with the women’s 100m drawing 37 entries.
Medals will also be decided in the women’s pole vault and discus throw. In all, 1,059 competitors, including 709 men, have confirmed their participation in the meet, which concludes on Sunday.

Priyanuj, Ritvik emerge U-19 and U-17 national champions
Assam’s Priyanuj Bhattacharya staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Tamil Nadu’s P. B. Abhinand in the Under-19 Boys’ Singles final, denying his opponent a third gold at the Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships here on Thursday.
In a gripping summit clash that lived up to expectations, Abhinand surged to a commanding 2-0 lead, appearing firmly on course for the title.
However, Bhattacharya responded with grit and composure, turning the match around with four consecutive games. The Assam paddler shut the door on any comeback, sealing a 4-2 victory to finally claim a long-awaited national crown — a fitting reward for his persistence.
The Tamil Nadu pair of P.B. Abhinand and M.R. Balamurugan capped off a dominant run by clinching the title with a commanding 3-1 victory over compatriots S.K. Mehan and Umesh Kumar in the final.
In a gripping Under-17 Boys Singles final that swung back and forth with momentum shifts, Ritvik Gupta of J&K edged past Odisha’s Sarthak Arya in a hard-fought seven-game battle, winning 4-3.
Sahil Rawat and Dhairya Rawat of PSPBA emerged champions after a hard-fought five-game victory over fellow PSPBA duo Trishal Raj Kumar and Rushikesh Jagtap. The final ebbed and flowed, with both pairs trading momentum, but Sahil and Dhairya held their nerve in the decider to close out the match 11-7 and lift the title.

Dhruv maintained that control through the round, adding two more birdies on the 10th and 11th to stay ahead of the chasing pack.
Sunit Chowrasia (70-66-68), who returned from a long injury lay-off earlier this year, climbed into the second spot at 12-under 204 after a steady four-under 68 that featured five birdies and a lone bogey.

TN, Bengal, Delhi storm into pre-quarters of Jr and Youth National TT
Powerhouses Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Delhi stamped their authority early on, cruising into the pre-quarterfinals from their respective groups in the Under-19 girls’ team event at the UTT Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships in Dehradun.
With just one round of league matches remaining — Telangana vs Punjab (Group A), Uttarakhand vs Assam (Group B), and PSPBA vs Chandigarh (Group C) — the outcomes will have little impact on the three dominant leaders, who have already sealed their spots.
However, the final round will determine the second qualifiers from each group, adding intrigue to the closing league fixtures.
Elsewhere, Maharashtra (Group D), Uttar Pradesh (Group E), NCOE (Group F), Karnataka (Group G), and Gujarat (Group H) have virtually secured their pre-quarterfinal berths.
Yet, the race for the remaining knockout spots remains intense, particularly in Groups E and F, where the battle for the second qualification place is expected to go down to the wire.
Placed in a tough Group C, hosts Uttarakhand lost their match to West Bengal 0-3, but they can redeem themselves when they take on Assam in their last-round tie later today.
