The leading ladies of “The Bride!” forewent their Gothic styling and opted for dark glamour on the red carpet of the film’s London premiere on Thursday night.
Jessie Buckley, Maggie Gyllenhaal and more styled looks by Maison Margiela and Schiaparelli, among other designers, homing in on the Gothic aura of Gyllenhaal’s latest directorial feat. WWD breaks down those looks and more ahead.

Buckley conjured her dark glamour look with the help of stylist Danielle Goldberg. The two-time Oscar-nominated actress wore a sheer gown from Maison Margiela’s Artisanal 2024 collection by John Galliano. Lauded upon its debut during Paris Fashion Week in January 2024, the collection evoked theatricality, captured in this one look worn by Buckley.
The sleeveless sheer black dress featured a flowing skirt and mostly fitted bodice. Beneath the sheer material, Buckley wore a corset for added silhouette definition. As for accessories, the actress wore jewelry pieces by Jessica McCormack. Her hair was styled by Jenny Cho with makeup provided by Nina Park.
Penelope Cruz

Penélope Cruz channeled the regal glamour of Matthieu Blazy’s vision for Chanel. An ambassador of roughly eight years for the French luxury fashion house, Cruz’s gown evoked Old Hollywood. The sleeveless dress featured a plunging neckline and streamlined silhouette, with allover shimmering elements incorporated throughout. The actress also added a feathery red shawl for added textural definition and a pop of color.
Maggie Gyllenhaal

Gyllenhaal wore a black gown by Schiaparelli. The simple dress was crafted with a bevy of fabric ruching, short sleeves and the French luxury fashion house’s idiosyncratic keyhole cutout at the bodice. “The Bride!” filmmaker and screenwriter added a pop of color with her emerald green jewelry.
Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough channeled contemporary edge in her attire, wearing a billowing smocked cream gown with coordinated black leathery opera gloves. The dress was designed with a shapeless, flowing silhouette, with sleeveless element and maxi hem. The black gloves and Hough’s black earrings provided color palette contrast.
Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!” is a fresh iteration on “The Bride of Frankenstein.” Set in 1930s Chicago, Frank, played by Christian Bale, helps create a bride, played by Buckley, as his companion, leading to unrest and police intrigue. The film hits theaters March 6.
