The Most Thrilling “Darecations” Around the World, Ranked

Once upon a time, vacations were synonymous with slowing down. Now, many travelers are opting for the opposite, swapping rest and relaxation for adventure and adrenaline. Pinterest has spotlighted “darecations” as a major travel trend for 2026, with searches for adventure tourism surging 75 percent. Centered on risk and thrill, these high-intensity experiences range from whitewater rafting through rapids to diving with sharks in the deep blue.

Years of pandemic-induced homebody habits—and perhaps even a resurgence of the YOLO mentality—may be driving this shift in travel priorities. Instead of staying in, antsy adults are trading channel surfing for actual surfing—or volcano boarding, one of the world’s top “darecations.”

Alongside sliding down the steep, ashy slopes of an active volcano are plenty more heart-pounding holidays that, according to a new analysis from Attraction Tickets, a travel ticketing site, are growing in popularity globally. To identify the world’s most extreme “darecations”, travel experts evaluated each destination based on factors like online review ratings, fear factor, and overall adrenaline levels.

Top Darecations by Intensity

Taken together, these factors were used to give each “darecation” destination an overall ranking, from most to least intense. Below are the top 10 thrill-filled escapes, along with the daring details that landed them there.

At number one, AJ Hackett Bungy Jump in Queenstown, New Zealand, takes the top spot as the world’s most intense “darecation”, earning a near-perfect score of 19.6 out of 20. Known as one of the original commercial bungee jump sites, it offers death-defying jumps over the dramatic landscapes of Queenstown from iconic spots like the 141-foot Kawarau Bridge. With its naturally daunting setting and sheer scale, the site earned the highest overall score in the ranking. Flawless fear factor ratings from thrill-seekers around the world helped secure its place as the ultimate destination for those ready to take the plunge—literally.

Unlike the rest of the top 10, the second-place “darecation” was made by man rather than Mother Nature: Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. While it may be better known for family-friendly fun, its high-speed roller coasters and immersive rides deliver plenty of pulse-pounding moments. From The Incredible Hulk Coaster’s plunging drops to the Jurassic World VelociCoaster’s high-velocity launches, the park draws visitors from around the globe. With a 5 out of 5 adrenaline factor rating, it secures its place in the ranking with a score of 18.4.

In third place, Shark Cage Diving in Gansbaai, South Africa—widely considered the great white shark capital of the world—makes a splash with a score of 17.4. Set along the country’s rugged coastline, the experience lowers divers into steel cages for up-close views of great white and copper sharks in their natural habitat. With onboard marine biologists guiding the experience and pointing out other creatures of the deep, it offers a thrilling yet educational encounter—and a favorite for those seeking a true test of courage.

Thrills Without Borders

With the top “darecations” spanning every corner of the globe, one thing is clear: these high-intensity experiences aren’t confined to a single region. From New Zealand to Nicaragua and beyond, each country brings its own brand of adrenaline-fueled adventure.

In Africa, Shearwater Whitewater Rafting in Zimbabwe sends thrill-seekers through some of the world’s most powerful rapids—no surprise, as Pinterest searches for river rafting have increased by 35 percent alongside this growing travel trend. In Europe, Arctic Adventures in Iceland and Skydive Interlaken in Switzerland deliver icy hikes and sky-high views, from glacial landscapes to helicopter jumps that take adrenaline to new heights.

CHINA-HUASHAN MOUNTAIN-CLIFF PLANK ROAD(CN)

In Asia, the precarious Plank Walk along Huashan Mountain in China tests nerves with narrow pathways carved into sheer cliff faces. And down under, Blue Mountains Scenic World in Sydney, Australia, offers suspended skyways and scenic descents that deliver a different kind of rush against the rainforest canopy below.

Across continents and cultures, these experiences highlight a growing appetite for travel that pushes boundaries. Whether it’s soaring from a bridge, plunging into icy waters, or navigating dizzying heights, the world is full of destinations that turn a simple trip into something unforgettable.
