Less than 24 hours after the first images from The Pitt Season 2 were released, the first teaser for HBO Max’s hit medical drama has surfaced online. The first Pitt Season 2 trailer not only shows Noah Wyle return to the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, aka Dr. Robby, but it also shows the return of fan-favorite Patrick Ball, who is back in the ER as Dr. Langdon, despite some controversy in Season 1. Katherine LaNasa’s Dana Evans is also back in The Pitt Season 2, even though the Season 1 ending teased that she might be done working in medicine.

The first Pitt Season 2 images also introduced a new doctor coming to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, Dr. Al-Hashimi, who will be played by Sepideh Moafi. Dr. Al-Hashimi is a new attending who has worked with other doctors like Mel King (Taylor Dearden) in the past, and according to showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, she’s extremely progressive. This will inevitably lead to clashes with Dr. Robby, who is viewed as much more old school. Supriya Ganesh will also reprise her role as Dr. Samira Mohan in The Pitt Season 2, and fans can only hope there will be more sparks between her and Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy).

As for Hatosy’s Dr. Abbot, he will reportedly step into a recurring role in Season 2, and he’ll also step behind the camera and direct an episode of the hit medical drama. Hatosy previously directed four episodes of Animal Kingdom. He’s also not the only one stepping into a larger role in The Pitt Season 2. Leading star Noah Wyle will direct at least one episode in The Pitt Season 2, which will take place over the Fourth of July weekend.

Will There Be a Third Season of ‘The Pitt’?

While not officially announced, a third season of The Pitt is extremely likely. HBO Max boss Casey Bloys confirmed earlier this year that the streamer has plans for The Pitt to be its version of Grey’s Anatomy, meaning it could be on the air for years. A gap of exactly one year between seasons may not always be the case, but fans can rest easy knowing that Dr. Robby and the doctors of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center likely aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The Pitt Season 2 will be released on January 8. Check out the first teaser trailer for the second season above.
