This Walton Goggins Hidden Gem With 85% On RT Is The Best TV Show You Haven’t Watched

Any audience member who’s been watching the biggest TV shows of the past few years is well aware of Walton Goggins and the impact the actor has had on every genre of television. While most of us have tuned in to his high-budget hits or recognize him from long-running dramas like Justified, one of his best projects to date paints Goggins in a very different light.

Walton Goggins’ best TV characters have a lot in common, as Goggins is typically cast as a morally ambiguous figure, leaning into his dark side and serving as a foil to the hero of the series he’s featured in. However, serious, dark dramas aren’t all that Goggins is capable of performing in. Checking out his most underrated will come as a fun surprise for fans of the actor.

Walton Goggins Plays An Eligible Widow On The Dating Scene In The Unicorn

Walton Goggins in The Unicorn

In The Unicorn, a classic family sitcom starring Goggins, the actor plays the lead character, Wade, who’s navigating life as a single father in the wake of his wife’s death. While the premise has its melancholy moments and doesn’t shy away from Wade’s grief, The Unicorn primarily follows the ups and downs of Wade reentering the dating scene and discovering that he’s a hot commodity.

Airing for two seasons on CBS from 2019 to 2021, The Unicorn flew under most audiences’ radars. This might come as a surprise, considering how much of a splash Goggins has made on the TV scene in the past few years, but The Unicorn never reached the heights of flashy and popular projects like Fallout or The White Lotus, which have reinvigorated Goggins’ career.

The Unicorn Proves Walton Goggins Should Do More Comedy

Though Goggins is known for The Shield, Justified, and many other high-stakes dramas, he shines in the comedy genre. The Unicorn is only one of many projects that highlight this. As the protagonist of The Unicorn, Wade is funny, but he also embodies the archetype of the straight man in some of the comedic scenes because we need to take his arc seriously.

Conversely, audiences can see just how willing Goggins is to make a fool of himself in works like The Righteous Gemstones and Vice Principals. All of these TV shows prove that Goggins brings every comedic work he takes on to the next level, as sometimes the funniest aspect of any series is an actor who’s fully committed to their role, like Goggins always is.

Why The Unicorn Is So Underrated

Despite being an underrated sitcom you’ve never heard of, The Unicorn immediately catches the audience’s attention. It’s a relatable family comedy that doesn’t alienate the viewer, but isn’t afraid to grapple with relevant subjects throughout its run. Part of the reason that The Unicorn never got the attention it deserved might have been because viewers weren’t sure what to make of Goggins in this more domestic setting.

However, this shouldn’t stop audiences from discovering The Unicorn today, especially if you can’t get enough of Goggins. It can be difficult for a traditional network sitcom to break through today, as there are so many high-budget streaming projects competing for our attention. Fortunately, Walton Goggins doesn’t hesitate to treat The Unicorn with the same respect as all of his other TV shows.
