Wolverine’s Daughter Debuts New Costume, As She Totally Overhauls Her Superhero Identity (Including a New Codename)

Last week. Marvel announced the shock new codename of Wolverine‘s daughter Laura Kinney, the former X-23 – now, fans can see the accompanying redesign, as Marvel totally reinvents the young hero.

It’s possible that Laura’s new identity sees her working undercover to rescue a brainwashed Wolverine.

In a press release, Marvel just revealed Laura Kinney’s new costume as the “All-New Sabretooth.” Laura’s transformation is part of the upcoming Age of Revelation event, which will jump forward ten years in Marvel’s timeline, revealing a very different status quo for Earth’s mutants under the bootheel of the dictatorial Revelation, aka Doug Ramsey.

Age of Revelation is a spiritual sequel to the ’90s epic Age of Apocalypse, and will see Doug Ramsey (the former New Mutants hero Cypher) take his place as Apocalypse’s heir. Apocalypse recently enhanced Doug’s powers, giving him the ability to reprogram the mind of anyone who hears him speak. Ten years in Marvel’s future, Doug has used this power to forge a false utopia for mutants – one built on lies and the backs of everyday humans.

In this near future, every X-Men hero and villain – plus others including Spider-Man and Captain Marvel – is caught up in Revelation’s plans, with Cyclops leading a ragtag Resistance cell against the mutant dictator. However, in a shock twist, Laura Kinney will apparently side with Revelation. Promotional materials so far have hinted Wolverine may also be working for Revelation, leaving open the possibility that Laura is working as a double-agent to rescue her father from Doug’s control.

However, why Laura would choose to take the name and costume of one of the most evil men she’s ever met remains an open question. In the original Age of Apocalypse, Sabretooth became a hero in an alternate timeline where Professor Xavier was assassinated. Is Marvel planning a similar twist for Age of Revelation, or is this just a mirror image of that iconic plot point, turning the former X-23 evil? Fans will find out as Age of Revelation plays out over 2025, and Wolverine‘s daughter becomes the new Sabretooth.
