10-Part Crime Thriller With 89% RT Score Is Officially Releasing New Episodes On Paramount+ This August

A fan-favorite crime thriller series will soon drop new episodes on Paramount+.

The streamer is carving out space for itself as a destination for fans of the kind of crime sagas that would have dominated on the big screen in most other eras. It’s not just the well-known Taylor Sheridan shows like Landman and Lioness. Michael Fassbender’s The Agency recently returned to strong reviews. MobLand season 2 will arrive later this year, with an eye towards season 3.

The comedic crime thriller Average Joe will premiere its second season globally on Paramount+ on August 19. The latest installment consists of eight episodes, with two episodes dropping for the premiere, followed by new episodes every Wednesday.

Created by Robb Cullen, Average Joe stars Deon Cole. The veteran actor and writer is an Emmy nominee for his work on Conan O’Brien’s talk shows, in addition to being recognized for his on-screen work on Black-ish and the spinoff Grown-ish. He plays Joe Washington in Average Joe, a plumber who sees his entire life upended when he learns that his deceased father stole millions from the Russian mafia.

Average Joe season 2 picks up that story, as Joe receives a mysterious threat that takes the action to Cape Town, South Africa. A quest for answers “spirals into a dangerous adventure involving international criminals, powerful enemies, and long-buried secrets,” according to a synopsis.

Joe, Leon (Malcolm Barrett), Cathy (Cynthia Kaye McWilliams), and Touch (Michael Trucco) end up being hunted across the city, having to deal with assassins, bounty hunters, and increasingly impossible situations in the hopes of surviving. Paramount+ also shared six images from Average Joe season 2. They are included in the gallery below:

Average Joe’s sophomore outing is adding Katlego Lebogang as Imani, a young woman with a connection to Joe’s family that alters everything he knows about his past. Hakeem Kae-Kazim as Sipho, meanwhile, has the role of a powerful Cape Town crime boss named Sipho. The series was well-received when it bowed in June 2023, earning 86% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

The acclaimed crime thriller is moving to Paramount+ in June, following BET+’s being folded into Paramount. Its return is accompanied by another well-received crime drama. Diarra from Detroit, which sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, debuts on Paramount on July 29. It is another import to Paramount+ from BET+.
