John Korir and Sharon Lokedi have both repeated as winners of the Boston Marathon.

The 2026 men’s and women’s races were led by the same two runners as 2025, with Korir obliterating the course record by more than a minute with a time of 2:01:55. Fellow Kenyan Lokedi, who set the women’s course record in 2026, did not best her own time at 2:18:51 but came in more than 30 seconds faster than the next runner.

Korir’s feat came while wearing an unreleased Asics Metaspeed Sky prototype, a source from the brand told Footwear News. He likewise wore an Asics Metaspeed Sky Tokyo prototype while winning last year’s Boston Marathon and the 2024 Chicago Marathon.

The Metaspeed Sky Tokyo is the second-lightest shoe in Asics lineup at 170 grams for a men’s size 9, compared to 129 grams for the Metaspeed Ray. Its midsole consists of two layers of foam, FF Leap up top and FF Turbo Plus below, with a carbon fiber plate in between. Retail for the Metaspeed Sky Tokyo is $270.

Little is known about the latest prototype worn by Korir, but it bears a strong resemblance to the Metaspeed Ray.

Running for Under Armor, Lokedi wore the same shoe as she did in her victory last year, the Velociti Elite 3. The super shoe comes in at 221 grams for a men’s size 9 and pairs Hovr Plus foam with a full-length carbon fiber plate for a retail price of $250.

Speaking to FN ahead of the race, Lokedi said of her exclusive colorway: “In dreaming up my return to Boston, the Under Armour team opened the door to my thoughts on shoe design. Being part of the process from start to finish on the Velociti Elite 3, from the testing to the color, was so fun! With our uniforms being a bit more subtle, I wanted pops of color on my feet. I cannot wait to race in them on Monday.”
