Eddie Hearn said on Wednesday that Katie Taylor deserves top-billing for her farewell fight at Croke Park as he ruled out the Dublin stadium staging the long-awaited ‘Battle of Britain’ clash between former world heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Hearn travels to Dublin on Friday to finalise negotiations for what is expected to be the last appearance of London 2012 Olympic gold medallist and multiple professional world champion Taylor’s celebrated career.
Croke Park chief executive Peter McKenna said last week the stadium, which has a capacity of over 82,000, “would be able to facilitate” the 39-year-old Taylor’s farewell if it also won the race to stage Joshua’s bout against Fury.
But with what could be the biggest fight in British boxing history now being lined up for November, Dublin is no longer seen as a viable option.
“If this (Joshua v Fury) takes place in November, it won’t be outdoors in Dublin and so therefore we just want to move forward with Katie Taylor,” Matchroom promoter Hearn said.
“With all due respect, I don’t think it’s the place to do this fight, either. Also, absolutely over my dead body is Katie Taylor going on an undercard at Croke Park.
“We’ll find out more on Friday. We’re ready to go and are up for doing it. Not necessarily with a finalised opponent, but in terms of the costs and the running of the show.”

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has adopted the ‘Kohima Declaration’ for giving a major push to develop athletics in Nagaland and the Northeast through targeted interventions, infrastructure support and promotion of the region as a hub for national and international competitions.
Adopted at the conclusion of its two-day annual general meeting here, the declaration emphasises integrating the Northeast into the national sporting ecosystem while creating pathways for youth to excel at the highest levels.
It also underlined the role of athletics in nation-building and fostering unity across regions.
Briefing the media here on Wednesday, South Asian Athletics Federation president Lalit K. Bhanot said the meeting involved extensive deliberations and resulted in key decisions aimed at strengthening the sport.
Among them, the federation has made SRY gene testing mandatory for athletes participating in national competitions, with the cost to be borne by AFI in collaboration with the government.
The federation will also undertake DNA testing of athletes for research and performance mapping, beginning with around 100 athletes, said Bhanot.
In a move to expand grassroots participation, AFI has decided to restructure district-level bodies to ensure wider rural representation by limiting members from district headquarters and including those from villages and blocks.
To popularise athletics nationwide, the federation will organise an annual 2-kilometre race across about 700 districts on August 30 each year, Bhanot informed.
AFI vice-president and World Athletics president Adille J. Sumariwalla announced action against non-performing state units, stating that the existing bodies in Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh will be suspended and replaced by ad hoc committees.
According to Sumariwalla, Tripura and Manipur have been placed on a watch list and downgraded to associate members without voting rights, warning of further action if performance does not improve.
He also informed that foreign high-performance directors have been appointed for senior and junior athletes to enhance India’s competitive standards.

Fitzgerald played in 137 games (109 starts) with Dallas from 1971-80 after being drafted in the fourth round in 1970 out of Boston College.
He was a member of the Cowboys’ first two championship teams in Super Bowls VI and XII.

Former doubles World No. 1 Jamie Murray called time on his tennis career on Wednesday, hanging up his racket at 40 after a trophy-laden journey that included seven Grand Slam titles and a Davis Cup triumph with his brother Andy Murray.
The older sibling of former top-ranked singles player Andy, Jamie announced his retirement after 36 years in the sport, capping a career that saw him reach the doubles World No. 1 ranking in 2016.
Jamie retires with 34 titles to his name, with a Grand Slam haul that includes doubles crowns at the Australian Open and U.S. Open in 2016. He also won five mixed doubles titles split between Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
“My tennis journey comes to an end after 36 years. I feel very fortunate and privileged for all the amazing experiences this great sport has given me,” Jamie said in a statement thanking his family.
“For everybody else that’s helped/supported me – I appreciate all of you! Excited to enter the real world!”
Having won his maiden title in 2007, his final flourish came at the Belgrade Open in Serbia in November 2024.
Perhaps his most memorable moment came in 2015 when he partnered brother Andy in the Davis Cup final doubles rubber, eventually helping Britain beat Belgium to claim its first title since 1936.
“Jamie’s achievements of playing over 1000 Tour-level matches, winning seven Grand Slam titles, Davis Cup glory and reaching world number one speaks for itself,” said Scott Lloyd, Chief Executive of Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association.
“We wish him the very best as he embarks on the next stage of his illustrious career.”

Feb 5, 2026; San Francisco, CA, USA; Puka Nacua on the NFL Honors Red Carpet before Super Bowl LX at Palace of Fine Arts. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images A woman who previously was denied a restraining order against Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua for procedural reasons has withdrawn her petition without prejudice, instead choosing to prioritize a civil lawsuit against him, The Athletic reported Wednesday.
Joseph Kar, who represents plaintiff Madison Atiabi, told The Athletic in a statement that by withdrawing the petition, the civil case can proceed.
Nacua has been sued by Atiabi, who accused him of biting her on the shoulder and her friend on the thumb at a New Year’s Eve celebration in Los Angeles. He also allegedly said “f– all the Jews” during dinner that night, which made Atiabi uncomfortable because she is Jewish.
“A voluntary withdrawal allows for the merits of the civil matter to be thoroughly investigated and tried to a jury,” Kar said in the statement. “Civil harassment petitions are not normally ever tried before any jury while the civil lawsuit will be proceeding on all counts to a jury.”
Atiabi is seeking unspecified financial compensation.
Nacua’s attorney, Levi McCathern, denied the receiver said the antisemitic remark while describing the biting as “horseplay.”
Earlier this month, McCathern announced that Nacua had checked into a rehabilitation facility.
“Puka takes responsibility for his well-being and increasing his performance during the offseason,” McCathern wrote in a statement published by NFL Network at the time. “So, in early March … Puka voluntarily entered a holistic care facility to focus on his personal growth.”
He is expected to take part in team OTAs later this spring.
Nacua is an All-Pro who caught a league-high 129 passes for 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns across 16 games with Los Angeles last fall, but he also has made headlines for less positive reasons.
Nacua, 24, had to apologize for a different antisemitic incident that took place earlier in December on a livestream with influencer Adin Ross. Ross persuaded Nacua into making a gesture connected to Jewish stereotypes while practicing a touchdown celebration on the stream.
He is eligible for a contract extension this offseason that is expected to make him among the top-paid players at his position.
