Apr 18, 2026; Anaheim, California, USA; Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe (14) is checked on my medical staff after being hit by a foul ball during the second inning against the San Diego Padres at Angel Stadium. Mandatory Credit: William Liang-Imagn Images The Los Angeles Angels placed catcher Logan O’Hoppe on the 10-day injured with a left wrist fracture prior to Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
The Angels also designated right-handers Jordan Romano and Shaun Anderson for assignment. Right-hander Jose Fermin was recalled from Triple-A Salt-Lake and catcher Sebastian Rivero and left-hander Joey Lucchesi had their contracts selected from the same affiliate.
O’Hoppe exited Saturday’s loss to the Kansas City Royals with left wrist irritation after taking a foul tip off the wrist in the eighth inning. The 26-year-old backstop is batting .205 with one home run and eight RBIs this season. The Angels have relied heavily on him; he has logged appearances in 26 of their 28 games.
As a result, veteran Travis d’Arnaud and Rivero will handle the catching duties. d’Arnoud is a former All-Star and has recorded 129 home runs and a .244 batting average across his 14-year career. However, his production has waned over the past two seasons. In 2025, he posted career-lows in batting average (.197) and on-base percentage (.255) and he is just 2-for-16 (.125) in six games this season.
Rivero has appeared in 45 career MLB games. He played 34 total games for the Royals (2021-22) and 11 games for the Angels last season. In that span, he has zero home runs, six RBIs, one stolen bases and a .172 average.
Romano was a two-time All-Star for the Toronto Blue Jays (2022, 2023) and has 117 career saves. After an underwhelming campaign with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Angels gave him a one-year, $2 million contract this season.
He got off to a promising start with six straight scoreless appearances, including four saves. However, he blew back-to-back saves against the New York Yankees, allowing five runs in one third of an inning. On Saturday, he entered the game against the Royals in a low-leverage situation with the Angels trailing 8-1. In two thirds of an inning, he surrendered four runs, three hits and a walk, inflating his ERA to 10.13.
Anderson was designated for assignment, as well. He has moved between the minor and major league levels for the Angels over the past two years. This season, he has a 5.94 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 12 strikeouts across 16 2/3 innings.
Fermin returns to the MLB squad after making 40 appearances last season. Across 34.1 innings, he had a 4.46 ERA, 1.398 WHIP and 39 strikeouts. The 24-year-old had a 3.27 ERA in nine games this season for Triple-A Salt Lake in the hitter-friendly PCL.
Finally, Lucchesi will also make a reappearance at the major league level. The 32-year-old veteran had a 3.76 ERA in 38 relief appearances for the San Francisco Giants in 2025; he allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings for the Angels this season.

Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina fell to a shock 7-6 (10/8), 6-4 defeat by Anastasia Potapova on Monday in the Madrid Open fourth round.
In the day’s late match, Kazakhstan’s Rybakina, the World No. 2, was shocked by her 56th-ranked opponent.
Both players secured two breaks in the first set before Potapova edged Rybakina in the tie-break.
In the second set, Rybakina captured her fifth break point of a long fifth game to nose ahead, but lost the eighth and 10th games as Potapova triumphed.
“I’m speechless, I’m extremely happy, it was such a tough match and tough opponent,” said Austria’s Potapova. “My team helped me today, they were there for me, big thanks (to them).”
In the third round of the men’s draw, second seed Alexander Zverev won in straight sets against Terence Atmane, and Alexander Blockx earned a surprising win against world number five Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Two-time former Madrid champion Zverev, ranked third in the world, showed his quality as he defeated Atmane 6-3, 7-6 (7/2) to reach the fourth round.
Serving well, Zverev kept the Frenchman at arm’s length in the first set with two breaks.
The second was closer, with Atmane battling well, and Zverev spurned two match points before triumphing in the tie-break.
Young Belgian Blockx, ranked 69th in the world, caused a shock with a 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 victory over Canadian Auger-Aliassime, his first win against a top-10 player.
“I had so much confidence,” he explained. “I didn’t even think about panicking or losing my serve. I was playing well in the rallies, too, so I knew even if I missed a few serves, I could play the rallies.”

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) forlorn skipper Axar Patel wants his team to try and move on after it suffered a nine-wicket rout at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
On a warm evening where Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood caused mayhem under lights, DC was shot out for a paltry 75 in 16.3 overs. According to Axar, the run fest at this venue just two days ago, when Punjab Kings chased down a record 265, may have had an effect on the host’s batters.
“What happened in the last game, when we lost after scoring 264, may have had an effect. There was hesitation from the batters. Other than that, it was bad luck. The batters just kept getting out within a few balls.
“We will just have to forget this day and move on,” Axar said at the post-match press conference. “Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood are world-class bowlers who held a good length.”
With DC’s fans expressing their anger after an abject display, the 32-year-old pleaded for support for his players. “If the fans are disheartened, the players are just as disheartened. This is the time for the fans to support the team. The players are down. At this time, it is very important for the fans to lend their support and trust the players,” he stated.
Meanwhile, RCB, with six wins in eight games, is hitting the right notes. Asked if the defending champion is the hot favourite to go all the way, Krunal Pandya said, “You can’t think too far ahead in this tournament.
“There are six more games to go in the league stage. We want to just continue doing the right things more often than not, stick to the process and look to get the desired results.”

Apr 21, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant (7) looks on from the court in the second half of game two of the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena. Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Houston Rockets star forward Kevin Durant is expected to miss Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers with an ankle injury, ESPN reported hours before the start of the Sunday night game.
Durant was initially listed as questionable by the Rockets.
Durant has a bone bruise in his sprained ankle, according to the report. That injury would typically keep him out for 2-to-3 weeks.
The 16-time All-Star has only appeared in one game in the series; he logged 41 minutes in Game 2, scoring 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 1 of 4 from 3-point range. Despite his presence, Houston still dropped the contest 101-94.
The Rockets have floundered this series, falling to a 0-3 deficit against an injury-depleted Lakers team. As a team, the Rockets are shooting an abysmal 28.7 percent from three.
Houston will look to stay alive in the best-of-seven series on Sunday night at home.

Third-placed Manchester United put some daylight between itself and chasing Liverpool and Aston Villa with a clinical 2-1 win at home to Brentford in the Premier League on Monday.
United moved three points above its rivals and took a huge step toward ensuring it will play Champions League football next season for the first time since 2024.
Casemiro, just weeks before he departs the club, sneaked in at the back post to head United into the lead after 11 minutes. It was his 11th headed goal since he joined United in August 2022, a record bettered only by Erling Haaland (18), Ollie Watkins (16) and Chris Wood (13).
Although Brentford was equal to the host in an entertaining first half it was United which doubled its lead on the cusp of the break.
Benjamin Sesko took a simple pass from Bruno Fernandes to finish off a swift counterattack and assure the talismanic midfielder of his 19th assist of the season, a league high, and only one away from equalling the Premier League record.
“Me and Bruno Fernandes work a lot on the training pitch and it is paying off,” Sesko said. “Knowing I have a teammate with this quality is a pleasure and I have to use it.”
Both sides had chances in a quieter second half but Brentford especially was profligate in front of goal.
Mathias Jensen’s long-range strike in the 87th minute gave it some hope but United held on to ensure another disappointing result for Keith Andrews’ men.
“Bitterly disappointed,” Andrews told the BBC. “Overall our performance was very good. As a collective we went toe to toe with a good side and controlled large parts of the game. They were more clinical than us.”
Brentford remained in ninth place, tied on points with Chelsea and Fulham, but it has not won in the league since February.
However, its hopes of clinching European football for the first time remain alive and Andrews was optimistic.
“There is absolute belief in everything we do,” Andrews said. “We are not playing safe, I don’t want us to be that team. We set up in a brave fashion against a top team tonight and unfortunately we couldn’t quite get there’”
