मध्यप्रदेश शासन के सामान्य प्रशासन विभाग ने 1991 बैच में एमपी कैडर के वरिष्ठ IAS अधिकारी अशोक वर्णवाल को कार्यवाहक मुख्य सचिव नियुक्त किया है। बुधवार को जारी आदेश के अनुसार वे आगामी आदेश तक राज्य के मुख्य सचिव का दायित्व संभालेंगे।

अशोक वर्णवाल वर्तमान में मध्य प्रदेश शासन में अपर मुख्य सचिव, लोक स्वास्थ्य एवं चिकित्सा शिक्षा विभाग के साथ-साथ गैस त्रासदी राहत एवं पुनर्वास विभाग की जिम्मेदारी संभाल रहे हैं। इसके अलावा वे खाद्य सुरक्षा आयुक्त का अतिरिक्त प्रभार भी देख रहे हैं।

यह नियुक्ति वर्तमान मुख्य सचिव अनुराग जैन के नीति आयोग के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी नियुक्त होने के बाद की गई है। अनुराग जैन के केंद्र में नई जिम्मेदारी संभालने के मद्देनजर राज्य सरकार ने यह अंतरिम व्यवस्था की है।
