Jacob Elordi’s Bottega Veneta Suit Got Caught Caught in the Rain

Getting caught in the rain is a beloved, if hackneyed, romance genre trope. Who could forget Allie and Noah’s passionate reunion, mid-torrential downpour, in The Notebook? Or Breakfast at Tiffany’s zenith, with Paul and Holly locking lips after the rush of finding Cat in an alley, as a New York City deluge beats down on their gabardine coats? Today, at the UK premiere of Emerald Fennel’s campy, gushy Wuthering Heights adaptation, it was only apropos that a smattering of rain made a cameo, too.

The actor Jacob Elordi, who stars as Heathcliff alongside Margot Robbie’s Cathy in the forthcoming film, hit the red carpet in London in a greenish-gray Bottega Veneta suit (he’s been an ambassador for the brand since 2024) that featured an elegant, mid-shin-length coat, pleated trousers, and a leather tie in a slightly darker gray shade. In typical London fashion, it was raining during the event. And while the stormy, brooding palette of Elordi’s was undeniably Heathcliff-coded, no accessory was more on-the-nose than the rivulets of rainwater dripping from the actor’s mini mullet onto his shoulders, punctuating the look like a wet exclamation point. (Per footage from the event, Elordi made valiant attempts to shield Robbie, who was wearing a custom, corseted-and-bondaged Dilara Findikoglu dress, from the weather.) In Emily Brontë’s original text, sudden storms and turbulent weather are recurring, mirroring the characters’ emotional volatility and helplessness against forces beyond their control—namely, each other.

If Elordi’s rain-soaked Bottega suit was proof of anything, it’s that the spontaneity of a downpour is an effective cinematic device: all-consuming, extempore, primal. On the Victorian-esque Wuthering Heights carpet, it tipped so far into romance it became faintly absurd: You couldn’t help but laugh at the serendipity of seeing two beautiful, megawatt stars getting caught in the rain at an event for this particular film. Now, if only Elordi had been that highly practical Arc’Teryx Beta rain jacket from earlier this week…
