Bridging the gap between the teenage years and adulthood is tough, but it’s made easier and better when you have a good set of friends to traverse the ups and downs with. This year, Chandler Levack (I Like Movies) will return to filmmaking with the release of her sophomore feature, Mile End Kicks — a movie that parallels the multihyphenate creative’s own early years of young adulthood. Starring Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria), Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid film series), and Stanley Simons (The Iron Claw), the movie follows a group of newly formed friends who have dreams of making it big in the entertainment industry. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got a brand new image from the film.
Grace Pine (Ferreira) is ready to strike out on her own, step into adulthood, and become the person she’s always wanted to be when we first meet her in Mile End Kicks. To do this, she leaves her hometown and all the comfort and connections that come with it behind and relocates to Montreal, Quebec, where she plans to write a book about Alanis Morissette’s game-changing album, Jagged Little Pill. But her dreams change lanes after she crosses paths with the indie rock band, Bone Patrol, when she finds herself falling for both of its members, Archi (Bostick) and Chevy (Simons). Moving towards the natural next step, Grace decides to put her Jagged Little Pill book on the back burner and become the band’s publicist instead.
In our exclusive first look image, Ferreira is embracing her inner journalist as she holds up a recorder to Simons in what appears to be an intense and intimate moment between their characters.
Who Else Is Behind ‘Mile End Kicks’?
Filling out the rest of the call sheet behind Levack’s second foray into feature crafting is a lineup that includes Jay Baruchel (How to Train Your Dragon franchise), Robert Naylor (Arthur), Juliette Gariépy (Red Rooms), Emily Lê (Paying for It), Hasani Freeman (You Can Live Forever), Isaiah Lehtinen (I Like Movies) and Magi Merlin. Alongside a slew of eagerly anticipated projects, Mile End Kicks celebrated its world premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was greeted with open arms. Ahead of the film’s wide release, the musical drama boasts a staggering 100% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which paves the way for a strong cinematic arrival.
