The Connecticut Sun are finalizing a seven-figure deal with nine-time All-Star Brittney Griner, per the Sun’s sideline reporter and ESPN. The news broke Friday evening that Griner, coming off a down year statistically with the Atlanta Dream, will command the massive deal with Dream, who are scheduled to relocate the franchise to Houston in 2027. Griner, 35, is a native of Houston and a former star at Baylor. Phoenix selected Griner first overall the 2013 WNBA Draft, and she went on to become a two-time scoring champion with the Mercury, where she won a WNBA title in 2014. Following a much-publicized detainment abroad in 2022, Griner spent two more seasons in Phoenix before joining Atlanta last year. She averaged career lows in points (9.8), rebounds (5.2) and blocks (1.2) while starting 25 out of 39 games. Griner is a six-time All-WNBA honoree and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. The Sun went 11-33 last season. Their .250 winning percentage was the lowest in franchise history. –Field Level Media #Deadspin #Reports #Sun #inking #Brittney #Griner #million #deal
