BBC has unveiled the first official trailer for Mint, a unique new romance crime series from filmmaker Charlotte Regan, director of the superb Scrapper a few years back. “Some connections change everything…” Mint is a darkly comic and unconventional drama series about a crime family’s inner life, told through the eyes of its daughter, who is searching for love. It was filmed up in Scotland and around the UK early last year. Emma Laird stars as Shannon, the naively romantic daughter of a crime family – a real-life princess who has never wanted for anything. She meets Arran, a member of a rival gang. Their whirlwind romance begins to unravel the world she’s always known. A darkly comic story of passion, heartbreak and love laced with fear. “A criminally good love story.” The series also stars Lewis Gribben, Laura Fraser, Sam Riley, Lindsay Duncan, and Ben Coyle-Larner as Arran. This looks solid even with this quick trailer. Less than 60 seconds of footage in here and still a handful of dazzling shots that make me really want to see more from this. It’s worth a watch.

Shannon (Emma Laird) is the only daughter of an infamous crime family that rules the region – a real-life princess who has never wanted for anything. Mint is a British TV series created and written and directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Charlotte Regan, director of the film Scrapper previously, along with many other short films (Standby, Fry-Up, Dodgy Dave) and some TV shows previously. Produced by Angus Lamont. Made by Fearless Minds & House Productions. Executive produced by Theo Barrowclough, Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross, Jolyon Symonds. BBC debuts Regan’s Mint series streaming on iPlayer in the UK starting April 20th, 2026. No info on any US release yet. Intrigued?
