Jared Leto reportedly isn’t too happy about Masters of the Universe. The actor seems to have skipped major promotional events for the film ahead of its June 5 release.
Jared Leto reportedly unhappy with Masters of the Universe
Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures have launched the final marketing push for the long-awaited reboot. Trailers, posters, and behind-the-scenes interviews have flooded out in recent weeks, featuring the main cast, but one face has seemingly remained absent.
Jared Leto, who plays the villain Skeletor, has not posted about Masters of the Universe on social media. He missed CinemaCon and did not attend the world premiere in Los Angeles. Now, a new report from Puck News mentions a source that claims the actor “wasn’t thrilled with the film.”
The actor has had several big-budget projects underperform, including last year’s Tron: Ares. The box office returns have not matched his Academy Award-winning pedigree. Furthermore, last year, Leto faced serious allegations (via The Guardian). However, the actor has denied it. But as a result of all this, Amazon is said to be “downplaying” his involvement in the movie, despite him being among the biggest names in the film’s cast.
With early box office tracking projecting a $25-35 million opening weekend against a reported $175 million production budget, the math already looks precarious. Despite the off-screen situation, early reactions to Masters of the Universe have been mostly positive. Ironically, Leto’s performance as Skeletor also got singled out as a highlight.
The updated synopsis reveals a story where the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam back to Eternia after 15 years away, forcing him to confront Skeletor’s “fiendish rule” and embrace his destiny as He-Man.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as the dual-natured hero alongside Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. Alison Brie will feature as Evil-Lyn, with Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy, and Kristen Wiig (voice) rounding out the cast.
