What Are Angel Numbers?

Angel numbers are said to be signs from the universe or from angelic guides, at least according to a New Age concept created in the early 2000s by a woman named Doreen Virtue. The practice of assigning spiritual meaning to numbers is thousands of years old, but Virtue created the modern idea that repeatedly seeing three-digit figures consisting of repeating numbers might be a sign from the angels.

Virtue has since converted to Christianity and renounced the entire concept of angel numbers, but the phenomenon she created has taken off. Many people believe that seeing these numbers means that angels or other beings from the spiritual realm are trying to communicate with them. There’s no actual evidence that these numbers are supernatural messages rather than coincidences—but that hasn’t stopped people from finding a great deal of power and meaning in them.

The Meaning of Angel Number 999

According to many angel-number interpretations, 999 is associated with endings and closure. But this isn’t a bad thing at all; instead, 999 is said to symbolize the fact that something is ending so something new and better can begin. 

999 may be a sign that it’s time to let go. It can be seen as a nudge indicating that it might be time to release what’s no longer serving you—whether that’s a job, a relationship, or a negative thought pattern. 

It doesn’t necessarily mean that your job or relationship has to end, but this number can be a sign that it’s time for some kind of transformation, release, or reevaluation. Seeing this number can also be a sign that it’s a good idea to listen to your inner wisdom, explore new horizons, and embrace change without clinging.

This number is also said to indicate that you’re ready to level up in life and that you’re ready to embody your highest purpose. It may be a sign that it’s time to stop procrastinating and take action steps towards your highest purpose, which you are now ready to embody.

The number nine is also associated with humanitarianism, compassion, and giving back to the world around you. “In numerology, 9 is a primary number and represents selfless and benevolent energy that sacrifices for the benefit of others,” spiritual coach Linda Berry told Women’s Day. “It’s the most intuitive, sensitive, and spiritual of all the numbers and brings forgiveness, empathy, as well as a giving and forgiving feeling to all endeavors.” 

Like all angel numbers, 999 is said to also be a reminder that you’re in alignment and the universe is trying to communicate with you. “It is telling you to have trust in divine timing. What you’ve been working toward, whether it be life goals, relationships, or even career possibilities, will begin to materialize,” Berry adds. “Your Angels are reminding you to keep your eyes and ears open for what they want you to see and know in order to bring things to fruition.”

No matter what happens, seeing this number is said to be a reminder that anything that is being cleared away is truly just opening up space for you to align with your highest purpose. In the meantime, you can focus on giving back and giving your energy to the reality you truly want to live in, not the one you’ve left behind.
